  1. There was a time when charitable contributions were voluntary.

Over time we have allowed our government to take over most not for profits.

This would include Catholic Charities which now receive 65 % of their monies from governments.

We have now reached the point where charitable contributions are mandatory – it is called taxation.

Next consider that at both the state and federal level we have replaced capitalism with ‘crony capitalism’.

This has been done with farm and manufacturing subsidies, tax breaks, grants etc.

What do you call the ruling class in a society where the governments control everything?

The solution to this is to elect people to office who will stop practices as displayed in this 708 Board ‘panhandling’ session.

Does that mean elimination of the 708 Board?

    Yes.

  2. Thank you Cal and Cautious… Cal for laying it out for folks and Cautious for getting it!

Over a week ago, I handed off to the county board, examples of ways to reduce county government.

These few examples would cut the county general fund by millions alone.

In this work, I did not include the “handouts” you speak of. When I was supervisor of Seneca Township I wrote a policy that put an end to taxing our constituents then “donating” to the groups coming before us asking for this money.

Most township have now adopted that policy.

County and all other government agencies need to take that same stand.

To the issue of 708 Board, Sr. Services, CDBG, HOME and all the other acronyms… it is time to stop this insanity.

Spineless elected officials will continue these handouts unless and until we, the voters, get these “nanny-state-ers” out of government.

This includes some of our so called conservatives on this county board!

We do need to take this on.

The work I handed off appears to have been nothing more than a waste of their time… seems Mr. G has not shared the document with the all board members!

I urge Mr G to share this work with his fellow board members as the suggestions just may be acceptable to them.

  3. Poor ursel has all the answers to the troubles of the world but no one seems to want to listen.

    Can’t imagine why not!!

Maybe she should just go home, give her mouth a rest and enjoy her county and township pensions.

  4. My comment in response to what was posted by Thefisher1776 is: there is no limit on stupid.

  5. Centegra is designated ‘not for profit’ and therefore pays no property taxes.

Part of NFP designation is a certain proportion of charity care be given to community.

(This is a lax standard anyway because the charity care contribution calculation uses rack rate, which is 500%-1000% of the actual reimbursement costs paid by all other patients).

But with the ACA in place, theoretically there should be no uninsured patients or ‘charity care ‘ necessary.

So, not only is it incomprehensible that Centregra is given public tax dollars as a grant, it is hoped that the County will investigate whether Centegra is complying with charity care contribution standards qualifying it for NFP status.

  6. Spot on Susan!

Even the more challenged should get it.

    Thank you.

  7. Dear “Thefisher,” the conspicuous absence of anything more than hatred coming from you highlights the point that you are the problem.

Switch gears… use your brain for something positive.

Just maybe… together we could really make a difference.
