Ersel Schuster Seeking County Board Seat

Twice Seneca Township’s Ersel Schuster has lost McHenry County Board elections and made a comeback.

The announcement below shows that she is attempting to regain a seat on the County Board a third time after being out of office:

Ersel Schuster Running for McHenry County

Ersel Schuster

Ersel Schuster

I am placing my name on the March 15, 2016 Primary Election ballot for the McHenry County Board from District 6.

I ask for your support and vote; however, I do need you to understand that I am not a candidate who goes along with the crowd to be popular…

I fully understand that we cannot afford “yes” men and women in these elected positions.

My record, often to my own detriment, is that I do stand up for you and against those who say… “don’t rock the boat,” “just go along…” with more of the same taxing and spending!

Government does not give anything it hasn’t taken from someone else… i.e. taxes!

Most running for elected office state that they are in the race because they think we need to “reduce taxes.”

Somehow it is always someone else needing to figure out what that means and what can be done about it.

The only way to halt government’s insatiable appetite for our hard earned money is to elect people who are capable of identifying the cause for increasing taxes; understand the history of issues; able to work for solutions that will actually reduce taxes; and be able to stand strong in the face of political pressures.

Having served on the county board, I have the experience and history that makes me dangerous to the elite political class in McHenry County.

I work on issues, ignoring political pressure; most elected to office do not grasp that concept and are quickly sucked into the fold.

They succumb to political power brokers and the need to be seen as being with the “in-crowd.”

At the county board meeting of September 15, 2015, I presented a document to the county board chairman.

This document, “Proposing Cost Reductions for McHenry County Government,” offers an “overview” and “recommendations” for each of 7 sample areas of county government where reduction of services could be realized.

Should you be interested in discussing these recommendations you can contact me at 815-338-2207 or at ersel@sbcglobal.net.

These suggestions, while they may be controversial and make some people uncomfortable, will reduce county government by MILLIONS.

The discussions are needed.

This is where it must begin.

As of this date, and from current information, the document has been deep-sixed! Ignored!

Our county board members must be willing, and capable of beginning these serious decisions.

Every taxpayer in this county deserves nothing less.

I ask for your support and vote on 3/15/16 to continue this work on our behalf.

Ersel Schuster Seeking County Board Seat — 26 Comments

  1. Maybe a copy or summary of the “overview” printed here would be nice.

  2. I think Cal is going to do something with it… otherwise I can email a copy to you.

  3. @Drake, stating someone is mixed up with no explanation is ‘messed up’. you prove you’re just another idiot with absolutely nothing to add.

  4. Ersel Schuster has never been afraid to say “no” when it is in the best interest of the members of McHenry County.

One may not always agree with her opinions, but you can be sure her ideas are well considered.

I highly recommend Ersel for County Board.

    Leslie Schermerhorn

  5. Leslie Schermerhorn, if this the kind of advice that you gave is anything like what you gave to the South bleacher mess, I am afraid this will hurt Ersel, not help.

  6. Ms.Schuster:

As a symbolic gesture from the top are you willing to sign a pledge refusing to take the full time Medical, Dental and Pension benefits for less than a part-time job which most of your constituants do not receive in their full-time private sector jobs?

Candidates Gasser and myself from District 1 went on the record declining to exploit the McHenry County taxpayer in this fashion.

What is your detailed plan for shrinking the size of McHenry County Government expenditures?

Would you support taking Valley Hi private and redefining the role of McHenry County government decreasing certain programs unwitting taxpayers are forced to pay?

Explain to me why voters should recycle prior board members like yourself who permitted or at least managed the County bloat taxpayers are now subjected to supporting.

What can you do now for McHenry County taxpayers tht you were unable to do before?

  7. Hold your shirt on Mr. Stieper… more to come… which you should have understood had you read the press release.

    Your questions will be answered…

For the record, I am reasonably sure that you are capable of finding the 2014 CB salary numbers.

Once you do, you will see that I was one of 2-3 who did not take health and dental.

IMRF… we were “convinced” we had to participate…!

Why did I not accomplish reductions in county government while I was on the board… you will have to ask other county board members.

I believe, when asked, you will find the same “dumb-stares” from them… including those elected in 2014.

They just don’t get it… and are afraid to step into the hornets nets that will be encountered once there are enough board members with the courage to start the process of dismantling county government.

You could also see that I was one of the only members calling for, and encouraging fellow members to stop increasing the levy and to start looking at ways to reduce the size of county government.

  8. Excellent Ersel! part of effective representation is not only having the right ideas, but to engage in passionate and persuasive public dialogue and reasoning to get and sometimes even force other Board Members to follow you.

Rather than not taking the benefits, make a motion and force a vote to remove them.

Cost cutting must begin at the top, lead by example and set the tone of change.

We do not need platitudes and empty political slogans but representatives with specfic plans, courage and strategy to make it happen.

I know you are of the right mind, the question remains do you have the right stuff to make it happen!

Again, are you for taking Valley Hi private?

Before winning over the Board, you must win over the electorate. . . No easy task. Good luck to you in the coming election. . .

Believe me, my shirt is going nowhere.

Looking forward to hearing your bold ideas to reform County government in desparate need of reforming.

  9. Ersel will be an asset and a person who fights for the taxpayers.

    Best of Luck Ersel!

  10. Just want to remind everyone She voted for the gravel pit in Hebron.

At that meeting she called the people of Hebron that didn’t support the gravel “A pit a bunch of Johnny come late-lees”

It was going to be a lake yea right!!!

they have closed this pit down and left with holes in the ground.

I believe she also voted against a grant for Harvard for sex education/birth control.

This would not cost the School district any money and might help stop some of the young teen age births.

I think she was against the winery in Hebron Township too

District 6 needs some one to be on the board to work for the people in District 6!!!

Ersal you had your chances, We can not afford to have Ersal on the County Board any more!!!

  11. Mark S. = Mark Shepherd: In my opinion, because of you and a few other Republicans spreading b.s. we have Larry Smith on the County Board.

Larry has NOT represented the taxpayers.

I pray someone runs against you for Republican committeeman because we do not need people like you representing us.

Ersel has always represented the taxpayers and does her best to follow the law.

Those most affected by the gravel pit have put it behind them but you have continued to sing the same anthem just like Anderson does for Townships – peas in a pod.

  12. A few people in this world, including mark s., can’t handle the truth and never admit any wrong.

Thanks for giving us lary smyth, another piece of worthlessness.

  13. Concerned voter= Not concerned enough to post any name.

I hope some one runs against me too.

    Why not you?

I am guessing you are part of the good old boys that lost some of your power last year.

I never said Ersal didn’t follow the law, I disagree with her voting record on issues that affect District 6 and my part of the county.

As for Anderson I don’t agrees with the township thing, hasn’t proved any savings, one pea wrong pod.

Klaatu What truth are you talking about?

I don’t control Larry Smith call him and talk about your issues.

    The people voted him in.

    I was one vote

  14. Truth is, Mr. Shepperd, is that it’s time for you to start living in the 21th century.

Most people change a little after 25 years.

Why don’t you get a life and grow up?

  15. My my, is the Hebron pit where all these flying rocks are coming from?

Ersel can still duck, not bad for a older…!

    LOL

  16. Ok folks…!

Mr. Shepherd, your passion is obsession and serves no purpose.

It would be nice if you could understand that when the County Zoning Ordinance allows a land owner to petition for a use allowed in a zoning district; and, when the petitioner crosses-the-“t’s” and dots-the “I’s;” public officials are obligated to abide by the law.

I would sincerely hope that, in your capacity as a village trustee, you make decisions on behalf of your constituents according to your ordinances and not simply because you “think” it is the politically expedient thing to do.

Unfortunately, far too many public officials make decisions based on the latter.

Your village could have had “low-income” housing on that land.

It would be interesting to see how that would have turned out for your school district.

Supporting candidates for office who listen to you, without having the where-with-all to check the facts, or other-side of the story… is a gross disservice to every taxpayer in our county.

  17. If they asked for low income housing I would have been against that too.

It would never have been low income housing they would need wells septic or annex in to the Village.

I never said anyone broke the law.

When I vote I do what is right for the whole Village with in the law.

Funny you bring up the facts on your few things you voted on.

    Was I wrong?

you voted for the gravel pit, voted against the grant and the Winery.

The article was about you, not Larry Smith or me and the Village of Hebron.

Just 3 things you voted on I disagree with.

I still have never heard why you voted this way, sorry to have struck a nerve with you.

  18. Oh Mark…

It is useless to converse with you.

I’ve known that for some time but I guess I just the eternal optimist.

You are right on those votes.

Each was well researched and calm, non-personal votes were given.

    I stand be each one.

  19. Mark S got McHenry County Board member Smith!

    Enough said!

Mark S, why don’t you run for County Board????

  20. Mark is right about Ersel being a ‘quasi-Jordanian’ …. hopefully she’s learnt her lessons from mistakes made years ago and trusting utter reeks and mooks.

  21. @ OldManWinter. What color is the sky on the world you live?

The words you used aren’t defined properly even in the Urban Dictionary.

Perhaps your real name is “Mork from Ork? Na Nu Na Nu?

  22. Some of these comments really seem strange.

Is there an Ersel supporter that is not really coherent out there?
