Term Limits for Legislative Leaders 13 Years after Proposed

My first press conference in the 2002 Libertarian Party campaign for Governor against chickenhearted Rob Blagojevich and Jim Ryan focused on Term Limits for Legislative Leaders.

Below, you can see the poster that my Lt. Gov. candidate Jim Tobin and I stood behind at his Chicago office:

"Term Limits for Legislative Leaders, 1800-SHAKE-UP"reads the sign used in Cal Skinner's 2002 Libertarian Party campaign for Governor.

Now, an article by Daily Southtown columnist Phil Kadner tells of a push by Shorewood’s Democratic Party State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant for the idea.

Democratic Party State Rep. Jack Franks did something similar in 2015.

My guess is that it was a way to distance himself from House Speaker Mike Madigan, whom Franks has voted for every time since 1998.

So, just like I learned in my college government courses, Third Party issues can penetrate the Power Parties, given enough time.

Those who support term limits for all legislators probably don’t realize the turnover among non-legislative leaders.
