  1. “Roots in the Community”?

    That’s his campaign message?

    Not “I’m qualified.”

    Not “I’m successful.”

Not “I will work to make the county a better place.”

Not “I’m a fiscal and social conservative.”

Not “I promise not to be a puppet for my dad’s buddies (even though I definitely will be).” \

His message is “My family is a big deal.”

    Hahaha, what an idiot.

  2. And all the establishment idiots are on his ‘Hosting Committee’.

All the usual ‘suspects’. No thanks.

Who is running against him in Dist. 2??

  3. At least he’s not promising to cut taxes, like all the others without ideas

  4. huh?

Not sure how you get my family is a big deal from a slogan of roots in the community.

Hilarious how much you try to stretch out your delusional narrative hahahaha. He grew up in crystal lake and yeah his family is from crystal lake originally.

Not sure why that should be a negative.

Great to have people running who really know the community and have a family with a long history of giving back to the community.

And your suggested slogans are absolutely terrible.

    Good thing you’re not running.

    Some suggestions for your campaign.

    “Curmudgeon for life”

    “Negative forever and always”

    “Conspiracy theories > real life”

    The “establishment idiots” LOL.

    You guys are great.

  5. The purpose of a campaign slogan is to give voters a concise summary of the campaign’s message.

Paul Serwatka is a “tax fighter.”

    Joe Tirio is anti-nepotism (www.iwonthiremywife.com).

Jack Franks “work[s] hard for Illinois.”

    Obama sold us “change.”

Giving it the most charitable reading, Cam’s campaign slogan provides the message that he grew up here (How this is a qualification for office is left for voters to decide, and how that’s appealing to the area of the county heaviest in first-generation residents is also questionable).

Giving it an uncharitable but realistic reading, Cam’s slogan tells us that he’s riding his dad’s coattails.

Cam should go back to his handlers and have them develop an electable platform based on actual issues and not on Cam’s personal entitlement for the job.

I’ll make you guys a deal.

I’ll stop making fun of Cam’s shockingly amateurish attempt at higher office (and I hold him to a higher standard because of all the political resources he has to draw from), if he starts taking this seriously.

As of right now, his website gives the following reasons to elect him:

    * He’s “a lifelong resident of Crystal Lake” (yawn, also, didn’t he go away for college?)

    * He “[has] tremendous pride in [his] community” (yawn, also does that imply that he has no pride in the non-Crystal Lake areas of D2?)

    * “The Hubbard family has been in this area since the days of its settling” (yawn, voters don’t care about what they did. What will he do?)

    * “many of [his] ancestors participated in government and influential community organizations” (need to back off the nepotistic entitlement a tad. Also, don’t refer to family as “ancestors”–that’s too weird)

    * “as well as my experiences in scouting” (Being an Eagle Scout is good, push that harder).

    * “participation in leadership roles in the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce” (I know this may come as a shock to someone in the Chamber bubble, but people who don’t actively participate in the Chamber (99.99% of the electorate) don’t care about the Chamber.)

    * “gives me a strong desire and sense of duty to participate in civil service.” (Don’t you think it’s a little dangerous to talk about the fact that you want to gain power without explaining what you would do with that power?)

    Here’s a better strategy:

    * Scrap the family angle. You will get torn to shreds if that is all you have going for you.

    * Highlight your legislative accomplishments at the City of Crystal Lake–did you introduce any legislation? How did you vote on the police and fire levies? If you raised taxes, start sucking up to cops, firefighters, and the law-and-order voters. If you voted against raising taxes, start sucking up to the anti-tax base.

    * Pick three big issues facing county voters. None of the issues Gottemoller grilled you on are those issues. Develop coherent, well-thought-out platforms on those three issues and have them be the focus of your campaign.

Meld those three issues into a slogan describing the common theme.

Make sure your position on these three issues is distinct from the other candidates running because if you lose on the issues, you will not win on the strength of your resume.

If necessary, pay someone to your write your platform and run your social media campaign.

You are young enough, however, that you can probably do the social media stuff yourself.

Cam has some work to do.

As of right now he’s coming off as an entitled child striving for higher office without knowing what he’d do with that higher office.

That’s not leadership, and that’s not electable. Focus on issues.

  6. Most of the campaign comparison’s identified here are one trick ponies- I plan to be an obstructionist with no solutions.

I am going to fight taxes- regardless of the reason…

    Anti- nepotism,?

    Seriously?

If you look at the county as a whole and broaden the circle of influence- there is a lot of “nepotism” to be found.

Political families-including Cal, Donna Kurtz, and Sandra Salgado.

Having a family committed to serve doesn’t make them bad- hold candidates and elected officials accountable for their actions.

Cameron Hubbard has a voting record on the City Council.

He is a good steward of the city.

Being a member of the Chamber is a big deal in Crystal Lake if you are in business.

I would like to see the ultra conservative candidate provide some SOLUTIONs to the challenges facing my community instead of bashing people trying to make a difference.

  7. “Cameron Hubbard has a voting record on the City Council. He is a good steward of the city.”

    Do tell.

Describing Cam’s “voting record” is at least something to evaluate him.

To date he’s given us no other reason to vote for him than last name.

  8. As Inish said… Jack Franks “work[s] hard for Illinois.”

About as general as you can get.

Is someone running going to “work less for Illinois”?

    What does this tell us?

    “Change”.

    Change what?

    Anti- nepotism,?

haha this is why we are supposed to vote for him.

“Roots in the community” says to me someone who knows the community, has seen it grow and would have a good handle on issues it has faced.

    Quite different from your interpretation.

“Giving it an uncharitable but realistic reading, Cam’s slogan tells us that he’s riding his dad’s coattails.”

This is what your delusional interpretation is and what you want to be true.

I dont see why having a family history in the community should be a negative and don’t see how that says he is riding coattails.

“He’s “a lifelong resident of Crystal Lake” (yawn, also, didn’t he go away for college?)”

LOL he went away to get an education for a few years and now he is no longer a lifelong resident?

Who probably was back each summer I would imagine.

“As of right now he’s coming off as an entitled child striving for higher office without knowing what he’d do with that higher office.”

    Again, this is your story.

Just because he knows other people involved who support him doesn’t make him come off as entitled.

In fact, I have not seen anything that makes him come off as feeling entitled to something.

I would imagine as we near the election he will share his views on issues.

  9. “As Inish said… Jack Franks “work[s] hard for Illinois.” About as general as you can get.”

Why are you having a hard time understanding that generic platitudes about hard work are light years better than “My family is a big deal”?

“I would imagine as we near the election he will share his views on issues.”

How does it appear to voters that when it comes to getting an office, Cam is putting the cart before the horse.

Sane people explain why deserve to be entrusted with power before asking for it.

Cam is asking for power without explaining why he deserves it.

  10. “I dont see why having a family history in the community should be a negative and don’t see how that says he is riding coattails.”

It’s not a negative, but it’s not a positive. The fact that Cameron is campaigning on his last name alone and has given us nothing else to evaluate his fitness for office belies how much of an empty suit he is. Voters are smart enough to see that.

  11. “Why are you having a hard time understanding that generic platitudes about hard work are light years better than “My family is a big deal”?”

Again, going from roots in the community to “My family is a big deal” is your biased interpretation to continue pushing your story.

    That is your delusional interpretation.

I don’t see how Cameron is asking for power before he deserves it.

  12. In many aspects I tend to agree with rawdogger.

I have watched a substantial amount of Crystal Lake City Council meetings and Cameron adds very little – if anything to the discussion or dialog regarding the issues at a given meeting.

He will simply “echo the comments” of someone else which leads me to believe that he has done little preparation or does not understand the particulars of the issue.

For the first time I looked at his website and quite frankly – there is no platform.

Other than a “history lesson” of the Hubbards and a few staged (and corny) publicity shots there is no substance to his campaign.

  13. Rawdogger (cringe)

I just wanted to say first that your name is disgusting and embarrassing, but that’s besides the point-

I am so sick of seeing your hateful comments on this blog, you should be ashamed of yourself.

It’s completely obvious that you have some sort of personal chip on your shoulder about Cameron for that matter , so while you may think your commentary sounds intelligent and witty and think your identity is some great mystery….it only comes off as biased and immature.

Why don’t you crawl back into the bitter, dark cave you came from and realize your hateful rhetoric does nothing to forward this conversation or better the community.

I suggest you make better use of your time instead of wasting it hating on a man that gets his butt off the couch and away from the computer( as you obviously spend too much time doing) to try to do some good in this community and stay involved!

    Better yet?

    Run your own campaign!

So spare us all and stop and think before your next predictable comment and go back to stealing candy from babies or whatever it is you do for fun.

  14. LongTimeRes,

Why doesn’t someone from Team Cameron come forward with real reasons to elect him?

Calling me a meanie and taking offense concedes that my criticism is true.

To date he’s not a real candidate, because his candidacy has been based upon his birth-right to higher office and not on anything that matter.

I expect a real campaign from here on out.

Scrub that garbage about his “ancestors” from the website.

    Advance a real platform.

Laud his legislative accomplishments during his gifted time on the Crystal Lake council.

Give us something real other than an arrogant ancestry.com recitation and baby pictures.

  15. If his father is Dave, who was on the District 47 school board, this will be all your going to get rawdogger.
