Veteran Crystal Lake Republican Precinct Committeeman Tom McDermott has notified McHenry County Blog that he is not a candidate for the McHenry County Board in District 2.

District 2 covers most of Crystal Lake south of Crystal Lake Avenue, plus most of Lakewood and much of Lake in the Hills.

McDermott applied for the vacancy created when Ken Koehler resigned to take McHenry County Board Chairman Joe Gottemoller’s appointment to the Metra Board.

Crystal Lake City Councilman Jeff Thorsen won the nod to replace Koehler on the County Board.

  1. Does this mean McDermott lied to Salgado, Yaeger, Sanchez, Serwatka, and Lutzow… along with Gottemoeller when he said he was definitely running?

This is why we need to just remove everyone associated with Uncle Al, Bill LeFew, Mike Tryon, Geri Davis, Mark Daniel, and the Millers.

We simply cannot afford the patronage.

  2. I love people who line up to have something handed to them, but when it is not handed to them (despite promising that they would fight for it), they slink back into the background.

  3. Numerous Republican Presidential candidates have dropped out.

No one says anything bad about them.

It is the natural process in a highly contested race.

Frankly, I don’t know Tom all that well and I haven’t talked to him about his decision to leave the race.

But the times I have dealt with Tom in the last few elections, he has been completely straight with me and done everything he said he’d do.

He was certainly a big help on the MCC campaigns in 2013 and in 2015.

So my guess here is that he wanted the position, he applied to be appointed, and as time has passed, he reassessed his position relative to the other candidates and decided this was not his time.

    I respect that decision.
