The nuns who want to expand their holdings in Coral Township and who were turned down 20-3 last September have gone to Federal Court for permission.

Included will be a school and dorm, nursing home, plus wine and beer operations.

Pressure from neighbors won’t sway the Rockford judge as it is possible it did the votes of McHenry County Board members.

Most of the arguments in the court case can be found in this long comment left on McHenry County Blog, plus this article citing other religious zoning in unincorporated McHenry County.

Threats are also enumerated, plus vandalism, such as, desecration of statues of Jesus and Mary.

The religious order is counting on support from a 2000 Federal law called the Religious Land Use Protection Act.

I talked to a potential appellate court attorney for the case this August on a Family PAC Cruise and he told me that local attorney Tom Zanck “had his ducks in order.”

Many of those who believe they would be negatively affected by the zoning decision stood at the request of a spokeswoman.

  1. The requested zoning change is for a commercial enterprise in an area which does not have the infrastructure to support it.

Best way to stop the Fraternites attempt to establish this commericial enterprise is to dry up their donations.

  2. I have seen these people selling their products outside of the Federal building in downtown Chicago.

I don’t believe a commercial enterprise will dry up their donations.

On the contrary I believe they want this to grow their bank account.

On a side note, I had to laugh when I saw there was a building for “nun storage.”

  3. If they were asking to put up a MOSK would have been approved immediately as we all know No One wants to mess with these people..!

    Re-think your plan sisters!
