Push Call on Recorder’s Office

A Friend of McHenry County sent the following about a robo-push call on the McHenry County Recorder’s Office contest:

Got a robo-call about 6:05 this evening.

Survey that seemed to be commissioned by Joni Smith.

It beat around the bush for a while, then gave about 6 statements about how qualified Joni is, and after each one, asked if it made you more likely to vote for her, a little more likely, or what difference does it make.

Before the last push, there were some even handed statements about all three candidates, then a negative statement about Tina [Hill] and a negative statement about Joe [Titio].

Took about 7 minutes.

My answers were all the most favorable to Joe.

  1. yes me too..

I had one and felt it was slated towards Joni Smith….

  2. do you think Joni will share the results with Tina Hill and Joe Tirio?

If I was Joe I would call Joni and ask

  3. I got rid of my land line, life is much cheaper and sweeter now.

  4. Tina Hill ‘endorsement letters’ to the newspaper are enough to do her in…

No need to add insult to injury.

And Tirio, Geez he probably doesn’t watch enough HEE HAW! for Joni’s liking.

  5. I received this call last night as well. The message was misleading originally holding itself out as an objective survey for recorder’s office until you did not answer the survey as desired then it proceeded to try and change your mind by telling you negative things about Tirio and Hill and then asking you based upon this negative informaiton would you reconsider changing your vote.

I found this to be deceptive and would not vote for any candidate who sponsored such a call.

With the exception of Hill, I was indifferent about this election not knowing anything about Smith or much about Tirio except he wanted to abolish the office, but now, having been misled by Smith’s robo call, I will vote Tirio.

Honesty is the first thing I look for in a candidate and unfortunately for Smith, this underhanded campaign tactic did her in for me.

I do not know Smith, she may be an honest lady, but unfortunately for her, this tactic did not cast her in this light.

Hopefully Smith will get a refund from the group who managed this robo call!

IN fact, I am wondering if this call did not violate campiagn laws because it was not a survey but a campaign piece for Smith and nothing in the call put the listener on notice that Smith approved of this message.

If I were a competitor in this race, I would file an immediate complaint.

  6. Got the same call.

    Really ticked me off.

Don’t lie and pretend to be a survey then become a huge puff piece without telling me it is paid for by the Joni Smith campaign.

Brought up the DUI charge without naming who.

Could lead people to believe it was Joe.

So wrong on so many fronts.

    Would never vote for Smith!

  7. So the fact Joe is running on the claim he would abolish an office when he can’t in fact do so isn’t dishonest?

    Geez.

  8. He already has the support of several on the County Board-and why not?

Approving this would be a feather in Their caps as cutting spending!

Inish, I don’t know where you get your idea that it cannot be done?

It’s been done in several other counties in IL and MOST counties have the two combined in IL, so apparently you haven’t done your homework.

He’s explained his research and plan to have the functions included under the Clerks office, reduce redundancies, and abolish the Elected office of Recorder (Phyllis Walter’s role) and return that over bloated Salary Plus Benefits back to the county!

Have you contacted him with your questions?

    Probably not.

You’d rather just type smack on a keyboard and discredit someone for doing the honorable thing.

  9. All Chicagoland counties have the two offices separately.

Rural counties have combined the two.

Sorry but I am always suspicious when someone promises to lower taxes as I’ve heard it so many times

  10. Had misleading statement about Joni that she’s been in the Recorders office “for years and knows all the functions, who better qualified…

Truth is She’s been there 2 yrs and is only a low level working supervisor who just recently got that title so she could run.

The negative statement about Tina was regarding her DUI’s.

The negative about Tirio was that he and his wife own Monarch Senior Care and that Tirio has formed a taxpayer advocacy group and that he plans on merging the Recorders office with the Clerks office and giving the money back to the county

    (Oh the horror! LOL)

  11. The Mrs, We can do better to cut needless elected figurehead positions!

Be skeptical of the ones running that want to be on that gravy train the rest of their lives at our expense!

  12. DUH!

He’s the only one willing to do it!

Are you the leader in a moron parade or what?

    Or are you Joni?

    Same thing.
