Could Pope’s Attack on Trump Help Trump Win the South?

Not that I know much about the evangelicals in Southern states, but I do remember the 1960 uproar about how the Pope would tell John F. Kennedy what to do.

And Pope John XXIII didn’t utter a word about that Presidential contest.

Now Pope Frances had taken Donald Trump on directly.

He’s not a Christian, the Pope said.

Christians build bridges, not walls.

Social media was aflutter about how the Pope lives behind high walls in the Vatican.

So, here’s my question:

Will the Pope’s attack on Trump convince evangelical Christians that Trump must be an OK candidate BECAUSE the Pope attacked him?

And, then, there are those Catholics who consider the Pope too liberal.

Might they be pushed toward voting for Trump, too?

I am a Methodist, by the way.

Could Pope’s Attack on Trump Help Trump Win the South? — 7 Comments

  1. Trump is supposedly really popular in the south to begin with though, so keep that in mind.

I hear he has most support east of the Mississippi, particularly in the south and Appalachia.

He’s probably going to win SC tomorrow and get nearly all 50 delegates.

  2. I think the Pope should worry more about what’s happening behind his own walls….

in my mind, there are are many priests who are not Christians and should be turned over to the police….not dealt with behind those walls !

    I’m voting for TRUMP…

  3. Shame on the Pope.

How can he JUDGE anyone’s personal relationship they have with God?

The Pope says that Trump is not a Christian but I guess that leads me to believe that the Pope feels that child molesters are Christian?

I also think that the Catholic church should pay taxes like everyone else. Why do we continue to let churches be tax exempt.

I also think the Popes attack will help Trump.

If you are a Christian you know what the Bible says about judging.

Apparently the Pope missed that Scripture.

I really feel the people will not approve of the comments the Pope made.

The Pope is a Sheppard not God.

  4. You know the more I think about this the Popes comments really have nothing to do with politics .

It has to do with what he is teaching the other Christians.

The Pope has no right, personal or Bible based to tell me and judge my personal relationship with my Lord and Savior.

    Only God knows my heart.

What he is telling people is that he knows a persons heart and knows the direction that our Father is going to take with any person.

Pray for the Pope because he is clearly being misdirected.

  5. Sure showed us how tolerant he is when he shouted at a couple of exuberant fans!

Now that he has judged Trump, can we judge him or should we leave that to a Higher Power?

  6. Leave it to the Higher Power.

I just want him to remove the walls around Vatican City and disband his security force so anyone can wander around there.

  7. I’m Catholic and I think this Pope lacks the intellectual power his predecessor possessed.

Francis should look around the Vatican.

There is a wall surrounding the Vatican!

I’ve been there and the wall has been there since shortly after the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica.

When France’s takes down the walls surrounding the Vatican then he can start talking about lack of Christian behavior associated with protective walls.
