McHenry County’s Mickey Schuch was the Parade Marshall in last week’s Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (IGOLD) march to the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield.
Here is what Schuch wrote about what happened:
ILLINOIS GUN OWNERS LOBBY DAY
IGOLD 2016 was a huge success.
It is by far the single largest second amendment gathering of its kind in the US.
I was honored to be the marshal of the event this year.
They showed exemplary leadership by arriving early and helping to ensure the event ran smoothly and safely.
My hat is off to all the volunteers and event coordinators.
Despite the heavy rains in the capital, several thousand patriotic citizens flooded the streets (pun intended).
Prior to the parade, we heard from Valinda Rowe of Illinois Carry, Rich Pearson of Illinois State Rifle Association and the legendary trainer and author, Massad Ayoob.
What are we lobbying for?
While we have concealed carry, it is still quite limited. Our founders defined the “natural laws”, bestowed by Divine Providence to us at birth in a nifty document known as the Bill of Rights.
These rights are not granted by man even if they “feel” this is the case.
Concealed carry applicants submit to a background check as deep and invasive as can be performed, but a licensed mom can’t have her firearm with her at a park?
You can’t ride the train, go to public events or visit a museum or amusement park.
Really?
The list goes on and on.
One of our goals is to to abolish the Firearm Owners Identification Act.
Illinois created this superfluous law, which amounts to a “gun tax” at the same time Congress created the Gun Control Act of 1968.
Guess how many states require a FOID card?
If you said one, you are right. Yes, good old Illinois is the only one in the country.
Five states require some sort of gun owner permit:
- Illinois
- New York
- New Jersey
- Massachusetts
- Hawaii
All five are in defiance of the US Constitution.
States such as New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Hawaii require a blessing by local law enforcement.
They decide if a citizen is suitable to own a gun. Since when are our constitutionally protected rights granted, voided or suspended by the opinion of a police chief or city council?
Equal protection under the law and due process are just clichés in these states.
We will change this.
Forty-five other states manage to exist without this infringement.
An infrigement that does nothing to stop crime.
No matter what state you reside in, a background check is done through the FBI’s system for all legal transfers of firearms.
Do you suppose criminals apply for FOID cards?
Probably not.
See my point?
Superfluous nonsense.
On a positive note, in the several years since Illinois Concealed Carry became law, less than .001 percent of permits issued have been revoked for violations.
So much for the silly myth that Concealed Carry would create the “wild west.”
We knew this, now it’s documented.
We respect our sacred Constitution and the entire Bill of Rights. Not just the second amendment.
Thank you to all who attended and to those who were there in spirit. So glad the men of Misson22 were able to be with us and spread their message of hope and love. Together we can end veteran suicide. Look them up. MISSON22.
I am so proud to know so many defenders of freedom.
As always defend life and liberty where you are able. Always look to do the right thing even if it’s the difficult path. The status quo is for the lazy and apathetic.
Nothing changes until we change it.
Make it so.
Onwards,
Mickey Schuch

To Mick.Eric and Matt..good job well done..
the foid card we have to carry was a Mayor Richard J Daley special…
it was only passed because he wanted it…
back in the 60’s with the riots going on in Chicago from the DNC…
and the death of MLK..
and The formation of black militant groups stockpiling weapons …
DA Mayor, who was the real boss of Illinois..pushed his FOID bill in order to find out how many blacks were armed….
I think the term..”BACKFIRED” is appropriate here …
Bobby Rush was a black Panther and he has been elected to office ever since…and Illinois residents have to take a back seat to the whims of Chicago voters
Thank you Mickey and the entire IGOLD Parade Team for being there to guard and support the United States of America’s Second Amendment.
The Second Amendment was included in the Bill of Rights to keep government and politicians from infringing on the Peoples’ Rights guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.
Great Job Mick, impressive march to the capitol supporting our American rights, you got my vote!!
Umm… you are aware that Chicago voters ARE Illinois residents, right?
AlabamaShake, If you don’t understand Bill’s comment, you’re part of the problem.
Oh, I understand it perfectly fine.
Bill thinks that somehow Chicago voters don’t count as IL residents, and that the rest of the state are more important than Chicago.
thanks SEEMPER FI
Alabam…..will not understand….
No it’s rather the opposite of what you stated.
Chicago Libs pull the rest of us in the state down as if THEY are the only ones that count!
If we didn’t have Chicago the rest of the state would be looking pretty damn good.
Chicago is a Democrat run sh!thole and it drags the rest of the state down.
Great job, Mickey…
Looks like politics may be in your future…..
we need people like you to represent us!
