County Paying Local 150 $25,000 to End Open Meetings Suit

Local 150 logoThat’s what is revealed in the agenda packet of the April 19th meeting of the McHenry County Board.

Here’s the guts of the authorizing resolution:

“…the Chairman of the McHenry County Board is hereby authorized to execute the proposed settlement agreement with the Plaintiffs in McHenry County Case No. 15 CH 424 and comply with any terms contained therein including the payment of $25,000 to be paid to Plaintiffs for attorney fees with such payment to be made from the General Fund Fiscal Year 2016 Non-Departmental budget line item OCA 900020-4570 (Non-Departmental – Contingency)…”

The settlement agreement is not included in the agenda packet.

Here is the reply I received when I requested it:

“I am sorry but it is not public yet.”

  1. Does McHenry County pay into the IUOE Local 150 Midwest Operating Engineers Construction Industry Research and Service Fund (fringe benefit fund) for county projects such as road construction projects.

The MOE Construction Industry Research and Service Fund has contributed over $9.3 Million dollars to the IUOE Local 150 Chicagoland Operators Joint Labor Management PAC (Illinois State Board of Elections committee ID 22986).

The IUOE Local 150 Chicagoland Operators Joint Labor Management PAC has contributed to many McHenry County politicians, including Pam Althoff, Jack Franks, Barb Wheeler, & Mike Tryon.

Millions of dollars is being funneled from an IUOE Local 150 fringe benefits fund to an IUOE Local 150 PAC and then to the PACs of politicians in the name of “construction industry research and service.”

Is the origination of any of those funds from public sector projects funded by taxpayers.

  2. Will Local 150 use it to fund the candidate running against Walkup?

If Local 150 wanted to do something constructive they would fund some election process education for the current County Clerk.

  3. Mark, try to prove it.

But then, they could not prove they do not.

  4. The IUOE Local 150 Midwest Operating Engineers Construction Industry Research and Service Fund would be included in Collective Bargaining Agreements which would be used on construction projects.

    It should be traceable.

  5. I agree it should be but union dues, political contributions and collections from lawsuits are all co mingled.

But, as stated, one could claim a correlation and the burden of proof to the negative would be in their corner.

I’ll have to check to see if they get any state or federal grants. 🙂

  6. A fringe benefit fund should be used for fringe benefits not $9.3 Million dollars in political contributions.

Of all their fringe benefit funds, why is the Construction Industry Research and Service Fund used for heavy political contributions.

The fringe benefit funds drive up the cost of labor.

Political contributions are not construction industry research.

Not sure what the “service” component of the fund is referring to.

Is that fund part of the “prevailing wage” for various labor classifications performed by IUOE workers?

What other fringe benefit fund in any labor union has such heavy political contributions.

    All sorts of questions.
