Two years ago, Liberty Outdoor, started by former State Senator Jack Schaffer donated billboards to help Republican Steve Reick’s campaign against Democrat Jack Franks.
A feud developed between Franks and Schaffer when Schaffer’s company posted the following billboard on Route 47 south of Franks’ Woodstock office:
After that Franks pretty much went ballistic. (He has a really hot temper.)
Then Franks got interested in the Regional Transportation Authority’s Metra train operation.
You may remember that Crystal Lake resident and Metra Executive Director Phil Pagano was killed by a Metra train running from McHenry to Crystal Lake. (His death was reported as a suicide, but Metra refused to release the video from the crash.)
Subsequently, it was discovered that Pagano had taken financial advantage of the agency he ran.
Schaffer served on the Metra Board at the time.
After the billboard went up, Franks started attacking Schaffer, demanding he resign from the Metra Board.
In 2014, when Franks again had an opponent, Steve Reick, Schaffer offered the support of his billboards.
Here’s the first one:
Here’s the second billboard of the 2014 campaign”
Here is the final billboard of the campaign:
The Reick campaign reports that Liberty Outdoor Advertising made a contribution worth $4,900.

Would anyone be interested in looking up the current figures for a billboard or mailing like the message on the billboard that started the feud between Franks and Schaffer?
Cal is like a lion rattling the bushes. Then he sits back and watches the hilarity ensue.
It’s all in how the GAME is played.
Go REICK!!!!
You said it Landon!
Wow, Reick ran pretty quick To establishment cronies!
Cal is like a $hit Stirrer turns it until it stinks and sits back and watches it fester
Well, being that there was a $4,747.89 in-kind contribution to Reick back in 2014 for the billboards, the answer isn’t too hard to find.
Need to look back to 2010.
