A press release from the U.S. Attorney:

Statement by the United States Attorney’s Office Following the Sentencing of Former U.S. Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert

CHICAGO — U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin today sentenced JOHN DENNIS HASTERT, 74, of Plano, to 15 months in federal prison.

Hastert pleaded guilty last year to one count of illegally structuring cash withdrawals in order to evade financial reporting requirements.

After the sentencing hearing, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois issued the following statement:

“With this case, the Office sought to hold Mr. Hastert accountable for the crimes he committed that could still be prosecuted: illegally structuring cash withdrawals and lying to the government about his motive for engaging in that activity.

“All of us have been inspired by the strength and bravery of the victims and witnesses who came forward in the most challenging of circumstances.  ”

As in all cases, the Office is dedicated to doing everything we can to help victims and their families seek justice.  It is our hope that the sentence imposed today will promote respect for the law.”

The sentencing was announced by Zachary T. Fardon, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Michael J. Anderson, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and James D. Robnett, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Steven A. Block and Diane MacArthur.

  1. 15 months for child molestation, taking advantage of your position and illegally structuring cash withdrawals in order to evade financial reporting requirements!

And this is why we HATE politicians, folks.

  2. The 15 months is for structured cash withdrawals, a law Mr. Hastert helped pass.

Statue of limitations resulted in no abuse charges.

But Mr. Hastert did admit to educator sexual misconduct.

This is the highest ranking official in the United States to admit such abuse.

His legacy should lead to more transparency and attention to this nationwide problem, akin to what occurred in the Catholic Church with Priests and such sexually abusing children, and the church covering up and otherwise glossing over the issue.

The 2015 movie Spotlight was about Boston Priests sexually abusing children; the Church reached secret settlements (private mediation) with victims, outside the court system.

  3. To the dumbed-down ovine citizenry, the whole ‘tragic’ fall of Denny is a morality tale that the highest officials are not above the law.

    What a crock!

The central bankers who permitted Lay-Z-Boy pervert Dennis ‘The Boy Menace” Hastert to occupy the Speaker’s perch for so many years knew all along about Hastert’s sordid past.

That’s why he was so manageable and had such a meteoric career.

Lil’ Lindsey Graham and Marky Mark Kirk’s pasts (and presents) bear equal scrutiny … along w/ MANY other solons and Congress-whores. Congress wasn’t cleaned when Barney Frank and larry Craig left …

Hastert was was taken down to show the central bankers that the their diebolding of Eric Cantor in primary and the defenestration of Aaron Shock would be met with tit-for-tat by the rival neo-cons.

Other victims of this strange warfare between the rival groups would fill books ….\Gary Condit ….Billy Boy Clinton (ala Mossad agent Lewinsky …. not too dissimilar to Gen. Petraeus’ fall from grace with his own Mossad honey trap)

Spitizer, Weiner. Gov. McGreevy ….. blah, blah, blah …… yes a subterranean war for power between two rival groups …..

  4. No kidding Old Man.

Now can you get the rest of the Repubs in here to listen to what you are saying?

    He gets it!

Read what he said until it sinks in, folks!

    This ain’t about school.
