The number of detainees using day room of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement floor is increasing slightly.

At the McHenry County Board meeting, Sheriff Bill Prim revealed that his office is “well on the way to hitting and exceeding our benchmarks” for the rental of jail space to outside agencies, primarily the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE).

While to goal was $5 million, the revenue is over $7 million.

He said the occupancy numbers were trickling up.

The contract now allows sixty days written notice to “bail out,” the Sheriff said.

He reminded the Board that a year and a half ago he “faced significant difficulty in discerning where we were.”

Prim Says Jail Rental Program Exceeding Expectations — 9 Comments

  1. This is a Sheriff who is working for the people of McHenry Co and we can be proud of.

  2. I agree with Farmer!

Sheriff Prim is doing the right thing for all the right reasons.

I tremble when I think Zinke was 97 votes away from winning that office.

The people of McHenry county won by electing Bill Prim.

The idea that Nygren and Zinke were shredding documents right up until the transfer of power is just one more reason we should be thankful Bill Prim is our Sheriff.

  3. Remember we are in a month to month scenario with this deal.

This is a very good thing and we should be thankful that Sheriff Prim and his leadership team are doing great stuff.

An extra $2 million to the kitty.

#1 That being said I would like to remind people making money off of incarceration is not my favorite way to generate money. Honestly, and again, I am very thankful to Sheriff Prim but it still makes me sad in a way.

#2 As a county board member I will not vote to allow other departments to expand on the backs of the Sheriff’s department.

I’ll leave that right here for right now.

  4. Wonderfull. Making money off crime.

    Great business model.

    Let’s just lock up everyone!

  5. Way to build an economy, lock them up and hire more prison guards.

Wait, prison guards work for the government and need pensions.

How can we afford the pensions if the blue collar working class are getting locked up and not paying taxes?

Oh, right, we are just locking up criminals and illegals.

    Pay taxes to house them.

Sure maybe 2 mil surplus, but that is from the Feds.

    Still tax money.

  6. The first time one comments, the program forces me to approve the comment.

After than it goes up unobstructed.
