CL Country Club, Garfield’s Hit with Selling Alcohol to Minor

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

Crystal Lake Police Conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement Checks at Local Retail Establishments

The Crystal Lake Police Department has completed another round of Alcohol Compliance Checks.

The operation commenced May 4th , and concluded May 11th , in which a total of seventy-three (73) separate locations were examined, including businesses that sell packaged alcoholic beverages and those that serve such beverages for on-site consumption.

In all of the 73 businesses, persons under the age of twenty-one, cooperating under the guidance and supervision of Officers, entered and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages.

In all but five locations, sales were halted when the clerk or business employee properly checked the purchaser’s identification and recognized them as being underage and therefore ineligible to make such a purchase.

The businesses that illegally sold alcohol included;

  • Garfield’s Beverage Warehouse – 305 West Virginia Street
  • Midwest Petroleum (Citgo) – 7615 Route 14
  • Crystal Lake Country Club – 721 Country Club Road
  • Krystal Thai III – 230 West Virginia Street
  • Papa Saverio’s Pizzeria – 540 East Terra Cotta Avenue

Clerks/Employees completing the illegal sales were cited with an adjudication citation, and are subject to penalties to be determined at a hearing.

With traffic crashes as the leading cause of death among adolescent Americans, coupled with alcohol as the leading causative factor, the Crystal Lake Police Department strives to develop a partnership with local merchants to help them achieve the goal of zero sales to minors.

These Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement checks are done randomly throughout the year and will continue in the future.

  1. I am now going to patronize these restaurants MORE than others because of this.

I’m sick of our own government TARGETING her own citizens.

  2. Can the citizens plan a surprise “operation” to assess as to whether the CLPD is conducting themselves legally and appropriately?

I bet they’d fail miserably….but the persons conducting the “operation” would then be targeted by the police for decades.

  3. Ah, the happy days of 17 and 18 year olds getting a few beers at the Crystal Lake CC (but no hard liquor!) seem to be gone ……. but remember there’s a new Sheriff in town!

Gee, I wonder if that’s why the CLCC wasn’t stricken from the sting op, like SO MANY TIMES in past years …. despite citizen complaints!!!
