Woodstock Tax Protest Monday

The front of the campaign piece used by District 4 Republican candidates for County Board last year says they will cut taxes and spending. If this budget passes as proposed, they will have fulfilled that pledge. Too bad school board members haven't gotten the message.

The front of the campaign piece used by District 4 Republican candidates for County Board last year says they will cut taxes and spending. They  fulfilled that pledge. Too bad school board members haven’t gotten the message.

A man with a hefty tax bill is going to lift a hefty bag filled with dollar bills to pay his McHenry County Property Tax Bill Monday, the last day to pay.

It’s hard to imagine 35,000 one dollar bills, but that is what he intends to use as payment.

Maybe all won’t be ones.

He’s looking for a mattress bag.  If you have one, please let me know and I’ll pass word along.

The protester wrote,

“Anyone interested in attending protest it is 1130 am at tax assessor office next to court house in Woodstock. [The assessor is across from the hall from the County Clerk’s Office.  The Treasurer’s Office is in the old savings and loan building at the corner of Route 47 and Russel Court.  That’s where the bill will be paid]

He says a large crowd is expected.

“Nothing changes until you help change it. It is time these greedy people get removed from office. I do as I say and it may take time but changes are coming to this corrupt state.”

Even before Mike Madigan's Democrats moved to hike the state income tax these two United Van Lines trucks were parked in Crystal Lake's Main Beach parking lot.

The person who told me about this wrote,

“Over the next decade we will see a mass exodus from Illinois.

“I have 4 siblings that have left in the last year and another moving out end of summer.

“I must know 100 people that have already gone.”

Woodstock Tax Protest Monday — 19 Comments

  1. Both of my kids left the state, I am leaving in a year when I retire.

My tax bill went up 980 dollars this year; I was born and raised here, its out of control.

  2. Every taxpayer should contact Governor to protest HB 5529.

It allows schools to levy excess accumulation in transportation fund for express purpose of transfer to Gen Ed Fund (= deliberate circumvention of statutory taxpayer protections).

Please voice your opinion to Governor, to stop HB5529. Below is my own letter to Governor’s office.

Please do not sign HB 5529, which makes a mockery of any last shred of protection homeowner taxpayers have under the law.

In Woodstock, property tax rate is 4.6% of total home value (13.8% of EAV).

Do you understand what this does to property values?

Do you understand that the median income household in Woodstock must pay over 12% of household income just in property taxes on a median value home (national average is 3.6%)?

Do you understand that the extraordinary property tax rate of 4.6% makes it impossible for median income mortgage applicants to qualify for a conventional home loan…and the impact that disqualification has on the pool of potential buyers for local real estate?

Woodstock CUSD 200 is strip-mining this town like Bell California, and there is something you can do about it: uphold the law.

The school code says schools must limit profligate spending within discretely defined accounts.

HB5529 destroys that limitation by allowing inter-fund transfers at the whim of the extortioners.

Governor, stop talking about how you want to help, and do something concrete to help us.

    Veto this bill.

  3. like it susan my check for my bill measures 12in x 24in,a big check for big taxes!!!

    WAKE UP GOVERNOR!!!

soon you will have no one left in this state

  4. “WAKE UP GOVERNOR” ?

Which political party has held iron fisted power in Springfield for the last four decades ?

    I’ll give you a hint:

It’s the same political party that has turned Chicago into a homicide hellhole and declared Chicago a “sanctuary city”.

  5. A mattress store might be willing to donate a mattress bag.

Hopefully someone posts a video of the event on Youtube.

Maybe some radio and TV stations will be at the event.

Notify the conservative local talk show hosts on AM 560.

  6. The Assessor’s Office is on the north side of the government complex and courthouse, the Treasurer’s Office is on the south side at the corner on 47.

Sounds like you are protesting to the wrong people…the Assessor only determines the value of the property, the Treasurer is duty bound to collect the resulting taxes.

The taxing bodies that each levy an amount of dollars and spend like drunken sailors are the real culprits. \

More parks, bike paths, open space, every road in the County paved every few years, 24 county board members, pensions, Cadillac health insurance premiums and on and on.

  7. There are 7 people in charge of $100 million annual budget.

You can speak to them at School board meetings.

D200 published budget projections condemning Woodstock taxpayers to at least 3 more years of 4.6% property tax rates.

These 7 people relentlessly hire more, spend more and borrow more as our home values plummet in response.

  8. I am not quite sure how this works……………

but…there is a money nuisance Law that regulates payments….

Wish I could find a reference to it

pennies are only good for debts up to 49 cents…

nickels are only good for debts up to $1.00…

    and so on

Dollars bills are good up to $50….

Not everyone is aware of this…

    even tax collectors…

but they have the right not to accept payment…

even if you show up with $35.000 cash…

and they can fine you on top of that….

    just saying

  9. With all those lawyers reading this blog, surely one can confirm Bill’s statement?

We must work toward two things:

One: All public sector union dues must be paid by the member directly to the union (we must make it illegal for government bodies to collect union dues)

Two: All property taxes must be collected by the government unit issuing the levy.

Once you get people to write separate checks to each entity they will realize who the real heavy taxers are.

Currently the County gets the bulk of the blame for high property taxes when in fact they (and a few Townships) have been working quite hard to reduce their property tax burden.

  10. Maybe the little liar Jack Franks can confirm Bill’s statement?

  11. Chicago is a homicide hellhole, because of the “DEMOCRATS” who have ruled many areas of Illinois for decades and Mad Mikey Madigan and Cullerton lead the way.

  12. All these new offices in the county government complex mixed me up.

    Corrections made.

  13. So, this person is going to walk in with a bag of cash and have to stand there while some poor worker who has nothing to do with taxes or tax rates, has to count it all.

If they don’t get it counted by the end of the day, he will have to come back the next day and will have to pay a penalty for being late on paying his tax bill.

    Sounds pretty stupid to me.

  14. Bill? If anyone is still following federal law – All U.S. coins and currency are considered legal tender.

Period. But the government does not quanitify what method of cash is aceptable or not within any jurisdictions.

In other words, if you don’t like small bills or change, you can make your own rules about what is acceptable.

Nothing to do with nuisance or any law.

  15. LOL Why are you asking the question, Wikipedia?

That’s about as reliable as reading comments sections for research.
