$10 Million Randall Road Land Buy Passes 14-8

Despite declling traffic counts on Randall Road, the McHenry County Board voted 14-8 Tuesday morning to spend $10 million buying land to widen Randall Road.

Traffic counts on Randall Road from 2005-13.

Traffic counts on Randall Road from 2005-13.

Here’s the operative language in the resolution:

…the sum of five million seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($5,750,000) [ is hereby appropriated] from the RTA Sales Tax Fund…and the sum of four million two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($4,250,000) from the Matching Fund…to continue the acquisition of said properties to cover costs associated with the acquisition of said right-of-way.

By taking $5.75 million out of the RTA Sales Tax Fund, the County Board majority precludes using that money to replace property tax dollars in the Sheriff’s Department budget next year.

State law says that the county share of the RTA Sales Tax can be used for either transportation or law enforcement.

$10 Million Randall Road Land Buy Passes 14-8 — 10 Comments

  1. It was stated by staff that this is not for acquisition to widen “Randall Road” but for the Algonquin Rd/ 62 intersection.

    Plenty more spending to come.

  2. kudos for the ones who were not sheep, and consider what the TAX payer wants…

  3. What are the PIN numbers of land purchased so we can look up ownership on Athena website?

Does that need to be FOIA’d?

Were board members aware of the specifics of land which they voted to buy and the price being paid for it?

  4. Thank you to the board members that voted against this !

Cal or whoever, please post the names of the board members WHO DID vote for the land buy.

A SHAMIE SESSION is needed on the blog for this disgusting Choice made for the land purchase.

Did the board members FORGET people/voters have been Out on the street WITH SIGNS PROTESTING AGAINST THIS !

Maybe a large angry group with signs needed to have been At the meeting last night to have gotten in the board members Faces.

This is way beyond disappointing, it is VERY UPSETTING & DISGUSTING ! ! !

  5. Watchdog 2?

The same thirteen nitwits that brought you every other really bad idea.

Off the top of my head I can name a few that are totally clueless; and shouldn’t be running anything more difficult than a whelk stand.

  6. Still didn’t have to use RTA Sales Tax money that could have gone to reduce property taxes.

  7. Political muscle was flexed today – we got freight trained. Perhaps when the new board is seated in December we can revisit this.

We tried. Dr. Rein did a great job.

  8. Thank you:

    Diane Evertsen
    Andrew Gasser

Common Sense is in the minority!
