Governor Signs McSweeney-Cullerton Bill Designed to Curb Local Government Spending

Cary, IL…Governor Bruce Rauner has signed legislation State Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) sponsored to create more accountability for how local tax dollars are spent.
House Bill 4379 creates the Local Government Travel Expense Control Act, which prohibits local government officials from spending taxpayers’ money on entertainment expenses and limits expenses for travel, meals and lodging for local officials.
The bill is designed to prevent additional wasteful expenditures by some community colleges, school districts and other local governments.
“This new law is welcome news for taxpayers,” McSweeney said.
“Illinois has the highest property taxes in the nation. We need to make sure our tax dollars are being used wisely and we need to reduce property taxes. I thank Senator Thomas Cullerton for sponsoring the legislation in the Senate and the Governor for acting quickly to sign it into law.”
