Reick Picks Up $3,000 More

Steve Reick

Reported near the end of July were two contributions:

  • $2,000 – Norman Hart, retired United Airlines Pilot, Barrington
  • $1,000 – Illinois House Victory Fund

I haven’t seen any contributions to his Democratic Party opponent John Bartman of $1,000 or more.

  1. Isn’t it a little strange that Bartman has been passing out lit and been seen with walkers but hasn’t made an expenditure of $1,000 or had an in-kind contribution of at least $1,000 either?

  2. **Isn’t it a little strange that Bartman has been passing out lit and been seen with walkers but hasn’t made an expenditure of $1,000 or had an in-kind contribution of at least $1,000 either?**

    No, not really strange.

    1) you don’t need to report expenditures over $1k within 5 days, you only need to report contributions of $1k within 5 days.

    2) walkers (and lit) aren’t actually that expensive.

The walkers could be volunteers (I don’t know who he is using) and you can easily get lit printed for relatively cheap.

  3. Remember the ‘hit’ pieces on Reick?

Came at the last minute to avoid ANY advance notice of who was behind it.

Bartman may not file any contributions or expenses until after Sept. 30 to avoid any financial dealings being made public until next year if he spends more than $5,000 as long as no single contribution meets the $1,000 reporting requirement.

OR Maybe the little liar or his daddy or the unions will simply give Bartman a very large check soon.

Democrats do not play nice in the political sand box.

As Mark has pointed out time after time, in politics, Democrats are the bullies.

  4. **Bartman may not file any contributions or expenses until after Sept. 30 to avoid any financial dealings being made public until next year if he spends more than $5,000 as long as no single contribution meets the $1,000 reporting requirement.**

Yea, that is also not how it works.

He’ll have to file a quarterly report by 10/15, which will have to include any contribution and any expenditure that was over $100.

  5. When Bartman filed his paperwork Committee he reported something like $750.

I don’t know of anyone that is making and printing walk lit for that little unless he got something like 500 pieces.

If he didn’t have it in his Committee when he started then he would need to transfer money in or pay out of his own pocket and then loan it to the campaign.

Either way, seems odd that he hasn’t posted any A-1s.

Fair point on the walkers, could be volunteers.

  6. ** I don’t know of anyone that is making and printing walk lit for that little unless he got something like 500 pieces.**

I know of several union printers that can a few thousand printed for under $500.

And, he could be collecting checks up to $999 and you wouldn’t know a thing about them until the quarterly report.

    So yea, still not strange.

  7. Actually, donations over $150 have to be reported to the public via the State Board of Elections.

  8. John Bartman is a Prevailing Wage Monitor for IIIFFC, an IUOE Local 150 prevailing wage monitoring organization at the same facilities as other IUOE Local 150 entities in Countryside.

He checks to be sure the state mandated prevailing wages are being paid on union construction projects, among others.

So for instance trade unions involved in road construction, school construction, etc. would be apt to support him.

The Turnaround Agenda by the Rauner administration explains their stance on Prevailing Wage.

Here is a link to the Turnaround Agenda.

The McHenry County Board passed Resolution 4087 supporting the some aspects of the Turnaround Agenda which they called, “Turnaround Agenda – Local Government Empowerment and Reform,” on April 9, 2015, by a vote of 16 – 5, with 2 absent and 1 away.

One can do a Google Search for that Resolution or follow the path below to view it.

The IOUE Local 150 sued the McHenry County Board in McHenry County District Court, alleging the County Board violated the Open Meetings Act on April 8, 2015, during a Bruce Rauner event the County Board called a press conference that was attended by Governor, some on the McHenry County Board, some City of Woodstock officials.

IOUE Local 150 and the McHenry County Board settled that dispute on April 19, 2016.

Resolution Rescinding Resolution R-201504-12-107 and Approving a Settlement Agreement in
McHenry County Case No. 15 CH 424

The allegation was the County Board violated the open meetings act by not following proper procedures as the board had a majority of the quorum at the Rauner Event.

It’s OK to have a majority of the quorum without calling a meeting as long as no board business is discussed, so that’s probably at the center of the dispute.

Rather than spending more taxpayer money fighting in court the board settled for $25,000 in IOUE lawyer fees (last we heard on the blog the County never got an invoice detailing those fees).

Read all about it in the court case and settlement.

Part of the settlement was rescinding the Resolution supporting the Turnaround Agenda items passed on April 9, 2015.

So that’s some history on prevailing wage in McHenry County.

John Bartman works for a union affiliated organization (the management side of the organization employs union labor) and Jack Franks primary supporters includes unions and trial lawyers (Franks is a trial laywer).

Democrat John Bartman v Republican Jack Franks in 63rd District State Representative election on November 8, 2015.

Democrat Jack Franks v Republican Mike Walkup in McHenry County Board Chair inaugural election on November 8, 2015 (the county board members in the past have elected one of their own to be County Chair).

    +++++

Undoubtedly some union members and those that benefit from the Michael Madigan – John Cullerton – Democrat – Union complex will be helping both John Bartman and Jack Franks in their election campaign.

If you support Steve Reick and Mike Walkup, consider volunteering for their campaign.

The Democrats want to retain the 63rd District State Representative seat in McHenry County, and pick up the County Board Chair seat which in the recent memory has been held by a Republican.

Traditionally, the Democrats have a stronger get out the vote organization than the Republicans.

This is an important election for Michael Madigan to maintain supermajority in the State House of Representatives.

A vote for Bartman is a yes vote for Madigan as Speaker of the House.

A vote for Reick is likely a no vote for Madigan as Speaker of the House.

While Madigan will likely retain Speaker of the House after this election irregardless of the 63rd District State Representative election result, every House District the Republicans can gain chips away at the Supermajority power the Democrats currently enjoy in the House.

  9. Some things to ponder while on the subject of state politics.

Will Ron Sandack talk about his pension in Volo?

And will he video tape it?

  11. ‘shake’ appears to be a typical Progressive operative.

    I stated:

“Bartman may not file any contributions or expenses until after Sept. 30 to avoid any financial dealings being made public until next year”

    so ‘shake’ responds with:

“He’ll have to file a quarterly report by 10/15”

but fails to mention that the report would ONLY be up to Sept. 30.

    I repeat:

“Democrats do not play nice in the political sand box.”
