  1. Being appointed should not disqualify them from voting on this matter, unless I am missing something.

Here are some quotes from the most recent set of McHenry County RCC Bylaws

Article 2 (Membership, Duties), Paragraph 1 “The membership of this COMMITTEE shall be the duly-elected, or appointed, Republican Precinct Committeemen in McHenry County.”

Article 2, Paragraph 3 “In the organization and proceedings of the COMMITTEE each precinct committeeman shall have one vote for each Republican ballot cast in his or her precinct by the Primary Election at which he or she was elected or during the term in which he or she was appointed.”

Article 14 (ENDORSEMENTS OF REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES IN
PRIMARY ELECTIONS), Paragraph 6 “Committeemen present will vote on the endorsement. Each Precinct Committeeman shall have one vote for each ballot voted in his or her precinct in the previous primary election. The recommended candidate must receive the votes of 3/4 of the Republican votes cast in the previous primary election to become the endorsed candidate of the COMMITTEE.”

Unless there is a relevant state law that states only elected PC have a say in this, I imagine appointees would be allowed to vote.

  2. I’ve been told those who are appointed will be able to vote.

  3. State law does not provide for a distinction between appointed and elected PCs.

The reason is no appointed PCs exist on the day the County & Townships elect their Chairman because there would have been nobody with the authority to even appoint them.

Therefore appointed PC’s prior to the initial Chairman election don’t even exist.

Once there’s a County Chairman, then you have the possibility of appointed PC’s therefore no need to create a distinction in law.

Appointed PC’s have all the rights and privileges as elected PC’s.

  4. Appointments seem to be the story of our times.

There is a new appointment in the Ron Sandack seat.

Hopefully, Olsen won’t have the same kind of McHenry County “Ties” as his predecessor…
