At the Nunda Township Republican Central Committee meeting last week, the Precinct Committeemen voted to hold a primary election to select who will run for Nunda Township office on the GOP ticket, according to Township GOP Chairman Joe Gottemoller.

That means at least two large townships have decided to again hold primary elections, instead of having Precinct Committeemen nominate candidates in a caucus.

Turnout is usually low at such elections, but the process allows many more people to participate than would turn up to a party caucus.

Algonquin Township Republicans have also decided to hold a primary election, instead of a party caucus.
