Democrat Melissa Coyne v Republican Pam Althoff for 32nd District State Senator in the November 8, 2016 general election.
The Democrats did not field a candidate in the March 15, 2016 general primary.
Rather, around April 17, 2016, the McHenry County Democrat Chair Michael Bissett, and the Lake County Democrat Chair Terry Link (also a State Senator), chose Melissa Coyne.

The 32nd State Senate District consists entirely of the 63rd District State Representative District and the 64th District State Representative District.
The 63rd District is entirely in McHenry County and it is Democrat John Bartman v Republican Steve Reick in that contest.
The 64th District is in parts of McHenry and Lake Counties and incumbent Republican Barb Wheeler is unopposed in the General Election, and was also unopposed in the primary election.
