Semi Hits Car on Route 14; Spring Grove Man Killed

A press release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department:

Two Vehicle Crash in Woodstock results in a Fatality

A 29-year old Spring Grove man was pronounced dead today after a two-vehicle crash occurred on Route 14 at Hartland Road in unincorporated Woodstock.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Woodstock Fire Protection District responded at 10:49 a.m. to Route 14 and Hartland Road in unincorporated Woodstock for an auto crash involving a 2013 Peterbilt semi pulling a flatbed trailer and 2012 red Chevy Cruze.

Deputies and fire personnel arrived on scene and determined that the male driver was deceased.

The semi-truck driver was uninjured.

Preliminary investigation indicates the semi-truck was headed northwest on Route 14 and the passenger car was south bound on Hartland Road.

The car stopped at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection and into the path of the semi-truck.

The semi-truck applied his brakes and swerved to avoid the collision without success.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 44 year old male from Wahpeton, North Dakota, is cooperating with the investigation.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The names of the individuals are not being released pending notification of family.

The crash [investigation] is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit with the
assistance of the Illinois State Police Truck Enforcement Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
