Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Single Vehicle Crash

Near the site of the accident.

A 65-year-old Huntley man was pronounced dead following a crash Monday morning when his vehicle overturned off the roadway in unincorporated Hebron Township.

A preliminary investigation indicated that around 1:51 a.m. on November 14, 2016, a 2013 Jeep Wrangler was traveling southbound Greenwood Road, north of Thayer Road.

For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the west side of the roadway where it struck a culvert and overturned.

The driver and sole occupant was treated at the scene by Sheriff’s personnel and the Woodstock  Fire Protection District, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The driver had not been wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Both front airbags deployed during the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Greenwood Road remained closed for three hours Monday morning for the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
