Grand Bargain – Resurrection or Armageddon for Illinois

United Van Lines truck heading south on McHenry Avenue in Crystal Lake.

The Illinois legislature has been in recess for a couple of weeks.

Returning to Springfield today, State Senators are facing the possibility of hiking income taxes back to the Pat Quinn-Mike Madigan days or worse.

Consider the following disconnect from Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno, in the Chicago Sun-Times on January 27th:

“We’re going to have to come here and take some hard votes…

“There’s going to be a lot of pressure on us when we go home, on you from certain elements on us (Senate Leaders) from certain elements.

“Don’t succumb to that.

“We need to do this together for the good of the state.”

If you are one of those “certain elements” who would like to express your opinion, here are McHenry County’s State Senators:

  • Pam Althoff,  217-782-8000, 815-455-6330
  • Karen McConnaughay, 217- 782-1977, 847-214-8245
  • Dan McConchie, 217-782-8010, 224- 662-4544

Grand Bargain – Resurrection or Armageddon for Illinois — 15 Comments

  1. Unrelated to this post… but still nothing on this blog about the horrific racism at Huntley High School?

  2. The Herald and 105.5 radio covered it as well as the Trib.

I come here for what the newspaper refuses to cover, or covers poorly.

  3. Pass right to work law – not tax increases!!!!!!

This is related to the post:

Illinois is now surrounded by states which have Right to Work laws.

    Guess where unions are growing?

    https://www.illinoispolicy.org/illinois-has-largest-loss-of-union-membership-in-region-indiana-and-missouri-have-largest-gains/

“As a result, Illinois is being passed over for new job creation. Union membership in Illinois is declining. In 2016 alone, union membership fell by 35,000 in Illinois, the worst loss in the region.

States like Missouri and Indiana, on the other hand, saw substantial growth in union membership according to an annual Bureau of Labor Statistics report on union membership.”

  4. No additional taxes…vote NO, cut expenses! We have most expensive roads in the US AND the worst.

  5. Fred: “We have most expensive roads in the US AND the worst.”

Result of Prevailing Wage and Project Labor Agreement (PLA) laws ?

I find it interesting that Illinois government bodies MUST buy product / services based on LOWEST cost but that is not really true because any bid that includes the requirement to pay Prevailing Wage or include a PLA automatically excludes from bidding any company that can do it for the lowest cost!

  6. Many nervous home/property owners who cannot withstand the government
holding them hostage for the legalized ransom called taxes.

Even in the dead of winter homes are being sold and more to come in
this spring as people rush to escape the fiscal death spiral before
    it’s too late.

Where does your future lie ?

  7. No, CP. New York does that, too. They also re elect previous felons when they get out of prison.

  8. these 3 Senators I would suggest best not VOTE against the peoples will of NO MORE TAXES! I don’t care how much Maddakahn holds them for anything !!! Get it Senators!?…

  9. For you right to work fans, what do you think is going to happen once Rauner gets rid of unions? What do you think is going to happen to YOUR income? Google right to work state and wages and see what’s going to happen.

  10. LTResident – you do know that Althoff isn’t running again, right?

  11. @ Audrey:

Only in unionized States do you get payed well for what you don’t know, and even more for how long you haven’t known it.

Get a grip on life; get an education, and you won’t need a union.

  12. Wow! I guess Audrey has a comprehension problem:

To repeat: “As a result, Illinois is being passed over for new job creation. Union membership in Illinois is declining. In 2016 alone, union membership fell by 35,000 in Illinois, the worst loss in the region.”

Maybe the Democrats under Madigan and the unions are responsible for the decline in union membership – not Rauner.

BTW, the term Democrats, would include the little “round mound”.

  13. Grand Bargain or another sellout of the taxpayers ……..

  14. “Audrey” yeah that’s what She said the last time. Not trusting.
