Algonquin Township GOP Endorses in MCC, D155 Races, Plus Only One Republican Candidate for Township Trustee

Here is what was delivered to my mailbox today:

Here are the recommendations from the Algonquin Township Republican Party. For the first time recommendations are being made in non-partisan contests.

It is a sample ballot from the Algonquin Township Republican Central Committee.

For the first time the Republican Party is officially endorsing candidates running in non-partisan races.

Apparently, the party has figured out that just trying to reduce taxes in local governments with partisan elections is not good enough.

The back of the mailing notes that 35% of one’s taxes will be determined by those elected to govern Crystal Lake High School District 155, McHenry County College and Algonquin Township.

The back of the Algonquin Township Republican Party’s endorsement piece.

For the McHenry County College Board those endorsed are

  • Diane Evertsen
  • David Schenk

The “FINAL FOUR” on the Crystal Lake High School ballot are endorsed:

  • John Pletz
  • Donna Kurtz
  • Raphael Kamner
  • Scott Vetter

Although there are four people with the word “Republican” after their names who are running for Algonquin Township Trustee, the local GOP is only endorsing one:

  • Rachael Lawrence.

One can only guess that the endorsement/association/active support of the only Democrat on the ballot by the other three Republican candidates led to the decision for the Algonquin Township Republican Party to disassociate themselves from the other three.

  1. Another Good reason why those who OWN / pay property Taxes should be the voters…

  2. Cal?

“One can only guess that the endorsement/association/active support of the only Democrat on the ballot by the other three Republican candidates led to the decision for the Algonquin Township Republican Party to disassociate themselves from the other three.”

I suppose the fact they all backed Bob wasn’t a part of the deal?

  3. I want to endorse Rachael Lawrence and Donna Kurtz.

    I hope they follow through.

  4. I must say there were many that the MC GOP endorsed in the last General Election that turned out to be
    HUGE disappointments.

Here I see some great candidates and at least a couple names and I have to say I find sketchy at best.

I guess I just need to remind myself that it’s not about necessarily achieving “better government” it’s just about telling people whatever they need to hear to get “Republicans” elected.

  5. Paul – You are somewhat right – it is just get “my Republicans” elected. The reason Jack Franks is the County Board chair is the rift that has been in the McHenry County GOP since the time we both got involved. As long as the party is about people over principles, we lose.

My prediction is that the DEMS will control McHenry in 10 years. It is sad especially since I have family who are stuck there

I doubt this comment will be published as I am regularly blocked from commenting on this blog.

  6. By the way – was there a vote taken on who to endorse in this or was this just decided by Andrew? Funny how he was so deferential while he was running to get his $100,000 a year job. Now that he has it, I guess he can do whatever he wants.

  7. Andrew Gasser has the job and believes he has the knowledge to take it on . . . well Andrew you do not gain knowledge by Osmosis.

  8. Well, I can vouch for Mrs. Evertsen and Dr. Schenk.

Evertsen has proven herself a taxpayer champion and patriot time and time again!

Dr. Schenk is just what the doctored ordered to heal the spending sickness of MCC and all its cash-hemorrhages!

  9. The reason Jack Franks is the board chair has nothing to do with the “voters”.
