Letter Writer Wonders Where the Money Went

Former McHenry High School Board member Ned Neumann wrote the following letter to the Northwest Herald. It is published with permission of the author.

That’s a lot of money

Steve Koerber and Ned Neumann at the 2015 fundraiser for State Senator Pam Althoff.

The current issue of the McHenry Township newsletter states that 50% of the McHenry Township Road and Bridge levy is returned to incorporated municipalities.

The McHenry Township portion of The City of McHenry’s Equalized Assessed Value real estate tax base is $457,335,807.

The Road and Bridge levy is $.3506 per $100 of assessed value.

50% of that levy is $801,821.

Last year the City of McHenry received $308,557 from the township.

That’s short by $493,264.

Someone should ask the current Highway Commissioner where the missing $493,264 is, every year, year after year.

Almost a half a million dollars.

That’s a lot of money.

I’m supporting Steve Koerber for the position of McHenry Township Highway Commissioner and the other real Republicans on the ballot.

I look forward to hearing the confusing explanation of the missing $493,000.

The incumbents who did this are no longer Republicans.

Support the Republicans on the ballot.

  1. The Township Road District levied $3,328,120.90 for 2015 tax year.

Of that amount, the County Clerk transferred $534,045.95 to municipalities.

The statement “the McHenry Township newsletter states that 50% of the McHenry Township Road and Bridge levy is returned to incorporated municipalities” indicates to me that the current leadership of the Township needs to be replaced quickly!!!!!

I agree – vote for the Real Republicans!

    $3,328,120.90 $534,045.95

  2. VCBV – BULL VALLEY VILLAGE $1,339.11

    VCGW – GREENWOOD VILLAGE $170.15

    VCJB – JOHNSBURG VILLAGE $143,505.75

    VCLM – LAKEMOOR VILLAGE $28,204.09

VCMC – MCCULLOM LAKE VILLAGE $8,768.68

    VCMH – MCHENRY CITY $309,483.55

VCRW – RINGW OOD VILLAGE $22,803.68

VCSG – SPRING GROVE VILLAGE $5.47

    VCW N – W ONDER LAKE VILLAGE $19,765.47

    Total distributed to municipalities: $534,045.95

  3. Looks like the “real republicans” are either “dishonest” or “not real smart” or liars

  4. Re: “Looks like the “real republicans” are either “dishonest” or “not real smart” or liars”

    Nice try!!

The distortion of the truth (lie) was by the current people in charge of the Township.

“The current issue of the McHenry Township newsletter states that 50% of the McHenry Township Road and Bridge levy is returned to incorporated municipalities.”

Vote for the REAL Republicans, not the truth distorters!!!

  5. Technically, half of each township’s Road and Bridge levy (not the whole road district levy) is returned to the municipality in which it was generated.

The district receives 100 percent of the levy generated in unincorporated areas.

How that works out in McHenry Township is located here on page 266:

    https://www.co.mchenry.il.us/home/showdocument?id=61085

The arrangement dates from a State highway reform bill in 1959.

  6. Nice try Pete.

    The numbers do not lie.

What I posted was the distribution of PROPERTY TAX dollars between the Township and the Municipalities.

Motor Fuel Tax distribution is also based on a formula. http://www.cmap.illinois.gov/about/updates/-/asset_publisher/UIMfSLnFfMB6/content/highway-jurisdictions-and-funding-in-illinois-part-one-state-transportation-revenue-sharing-with-local-governments

Personal Property Replacement Tax is also distributed based on another formula.

  7. So 50% of the Township Road and Bridge Extension from INCORPORATED areas is returned to the incorporated areas (municipalities).

(The Extension is sometimes less than the Levy Request).

That does not equate to 50% of the entire Road and Bridge Extension being returned to incorporated areas.

One would have to know the percent of the Extension falling in incorporated areas to fact check if the municipality is being shorted.

    +++++++

The Tax Computation Report (located at the URL above) lists every property taxing district in McHenry County, and shows for each:

    – EAV

    – TIF Increment

    – Rate Setting EAV (Does not Include TIF Increment)

    – New Property (New Growth)

    – Levy Request for each fund

    – Extension for each fund (IMRF, each bond issue, etc.)

    – more
