  1. I love the Latino flavor of all this. Count me in for an unlimited contribution, thanks to the Citizens United and our conservative supreme court. Tic, tock, tic, tock…

  2. If the comment is directed to Mr. Llavona’s comment, yes, that’s an example of his humor.

It’s amazing a HS ESL teacher (Mr. Llavona) teaching in a Des Plaines high school can earn $130K in his 21st year teaching.

State taxpayers will heavily fund his TRS pension which after 35 years of service will be over $97,500 annually….if he doesn’t receive another pay raise for the next 14 years (12 years if 340 days of unused sick days are exchanged for 2 years of service credit).

TRS is only 40% funded, has never been fully funded, and the benefits repeatedly hiked, and pension contributions diverted to salary hikes, but one sentence added to the state constitution, as interpreted by the Illinois Supreme Court, results in the pension being constitutionally protected, and the benefits cannot be diminished or impaired.

That’s politics and Democracy in Illinois where special interests come first and there was not adequate disclosure by State Senators, State Representatives, and Governors, as to what was occurring, before, during, and after the pension sentence was approved by voters on December 15, 1970 as part of the constitution re-write process (constitutional convention followed by special election).

Even though the State Senators, Representatives, and Governors all represent themselves as “public servants.”

  3. I have personally witnessed:

Mr. Wheeler has been diligent in Valley Hi Board meetings trying to stave off politically-driven spending hikes.

He has argued to temper spending on frivolity such as $25,000 of “art” which was suggested to pad expenditures in years that County Board wanted to inflate its own levy in order to preserve PTELL 5% maximums.

Mr. Wheeler is empathetic and compassionate to humans while at the same time being aware of the cynical system-gaming methodology of professional politicians.

McHenry County citizens are lucky to have such a person representing.

I predict we will not retain such diligence on our behalf if we do not exert some effort in response and support.

  4. Funny that he didn’t noticed the bonds were paid off years ago but we still kept collecting.

Hey Cal- Angelo’s is a grocery store.

  5. Wheeler did notice the excess accumulation in Enterprise Fund ostensibly for benefit of Valley Hi,and has fought against it.

  6. Feliz 5 de mayo sounds great for a fundraiser. However, when it comes to Latinos and other minorities, the attitude is very different the rest of the year. 2018, are you here already? Tic, tock, tic, tock

  7. We know compassionate conservative tough love in this sunshine blog too well. They try to bully you out in any way they can; but it does not work. 2018, please do not delay…Tic, tock, tic, tock…

  8. Actually Xout42- there is no discussion about how that $40 million came to be in that article.

Easy to point to a big number. – For years, the board’s lack of understanding of how to read financials has been evident- this particular case is my favorite.

How about the fact that Valley Hi doesn’t fulfill its mandate but rather competes with private businesses for private pay residents.

Get out of the Healthcare business.

It is clear they do not understand it.

  9. Yes the VH Board led by Ken Koehler in years past was deliberately, knowingly taxing excess accumulation.

Mr. Wheeler has been vocally opposed to this practice since inclusion on VH Op Board.

  10. Chuck is really doing great things on the board!

We need more Chuck wheelers in McHenry County Politics!!

    Chuck You the Man!

  11. Thank God Chuck’s running again.

    He’s needed!

Thank you Chuck and family for you time on the board, actions on the board and for stepping up again!

  12. If Chuck can’t get re elected, he could always go work for Algonquin township with his buddy Andrew.

After all provenzano’s kid got hired there already.
