CL Police Check on Sex Offenders

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

Registered Sex Offender Compliance Checks

The Crystal Lake Police Department completed compliance checks during the month of April 2017 on all registered sex offenders residing within the City.

Officers conduct these “knock & talks” periodically throughout the year to confirm offenders are actually residing at their registered addresses and the information provided on their registration forms is current and accurate.

Under state law, registered sex offenders are required to report any change to registration information within three days.

Non-compliance may result in a violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act, a Class 4 Felony. We discovered no violations during our April compliance checks.

The City of Crystal Lake currently has 21 sex offenders required to register under Illinois State Law. Juvenile sex offenders are included in this total but are not listed on the public domain.

The Crystal Lake Police Department recognizes the importance of Illinois’ sex offender registration laws and continues to make every effort to ensure compliance with all aspects of the legislation.

The Crystal Lake Police Department provides a website called OffenderWatch® for our citizens to view.

This site allows the user to enter a geographical location and determine the location’s proximity to registered sex offenders. Citizens also have the ability to sign up for confidential email alerts to track sex offender residential movements. For access to OffenderWatch®, please visit http://www.crystallake.org/departments/police/sex-offender-list.

The Crystal Lake Police will continue to check registered sex offenders who reside within the City of Crystal Lake to ensure they comply with all requirements under state law.

The Crystal Lake Police Department’s Targeted Response Unit supervisor, Sergeant Mike Bennett, can be reached at 815-356-3789 for information relating to sex offenders and the Sex Offender Registration Act.
