It was before dawn on June 11th when my wife and I heard what we thought was thunder.
Turns out it looks like a gas explosion in Marengo about fourteen miles away.
ABC News reports that two homes were blown up.
As a precaution NICOR’s gas has been shut off.

Multiple Homes Impacted by Explosion in Marengo
On Sunday, June 11, at approximately 04:50 a.m. Marengo Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the 500 block of 7th Ave in Marengo for a possible explosion that resulted in a house fire.
Upon their arrival there were four houses that were on fire, with numerous houses in the area impacted.
One person was transported from the scene by ambulance.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and at this time the fires are contained.
The utility companies are currently conducting assessments of the areas.
The State Fire Marshall is on scene and beginning their investigation.
Displaced residents are being transported to Marengo High School at 110 Franks Rd.

I heard that nobody was hurt but some family pets were killed.
My daughter has a friend who lives nearby & his house and car have broken windows from it.
He was told to evacuate his house.
NWH said two were hospitalized.
That deosn’t look like a gas explosion. It looks like a bomb.
