Car on Flooded Route 176 Next to Countryside in Crystal Lake

Thursday afternoon another Friend of McHenry County Blog caught this car on Route 176:

Crystal Lake flooding on Route 176 near Countryside Garden Center.

Here’s another view sent by another Friend of McHenry County Blog:

Car overcome by the high water at Countryside Garden Center on Route 176.

One wonders if the large drainage are beyond Casey’s gas station and convenience store could be linked to the highway drainage.

    What? No comment by “Nob”?

  2. Connect the dots and Cal.
No or probably not, as the detention or maybe retention ponds were probably just designed by engineers to deal with the runoff from that property.
If the state or CL asked them to make it bigger for that reason perhaps, but not likely as that would of taken away more property that could be developed for the business.
There would be legal questions about ownership and related maintenance also.
Call IDOT or CLDOT for the answer, giving me lip service so you can blow off some steam isn’t the correct deal.

  3. Cal, citizen reporter passing on some info:

Last night driving south east on the new 14 from Woodstock, the new road with curb had a few spots that couldn’t handle the rain intensity.

Beware by the hospital and just over the ridge to the east.

I know curb hold the road edge better than not, but it creates runoff problems and need for more storm sewer.

Which means more cost to install and maintain.

  4. It has always flooded there at Countryside Flower Shop.

It sits in a “bowl” and there are cat tails in the ditch as it is always wet in the ditch.
