Nail Gun Attacker in Cary Arrested for Attempted Murder & Home Invasion

Attempt Murder/Home Invasion

Sheriff Bill Prim announces the arrest of Edward J. Zegers, 52, of Cary, in connection with an attempted murder and home invasion that occurred on Sunday, July 2, 2017.

On Sunday, July 2, 2017 at approximately 1:40 a.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Cary Police Department, and Cary Fire Protection District responded to a domestic disturbance at a house in the 7300 block of Swan Way in unincorporated Cary.

Upon their arrival, deputies found one victim outside the residence bleeding from the head and face.

Deputies located Zegers inside a bedroom in the residence with injuries to his face.

The investigation revealed that Zegers had forced entry to the residence and attacked one victim
with a construction style nail gun.

A fight ensued between Zegers and the victim.

The victim sustained injuries to their head and face.

Zegers was also injured during the attack.

The victim was transported to Good Shepherd hospital, treated, and released.

Zegers was also transported to the hospital and released into McHenry County Sheriff’s Office custody on Monday, July 3, 2017.

He was subsequently charged with Attempt Murder, Home Invasion, and Residential Burglary.

  • Residential Burglary (class 1)

  1. This is why homeowners must be armed.

    This lowlife could have been dispatched thereby saving the taxpayers
    the cost of trial and incarceration.

    I’m sure that there is more to this story that we will never hear about.

  2. This POS is from my hometown (Northbrook).

    He and his brothers have been in trouble since they were kids (1970’s). They used to drive around town at night and randomly beat people up, rob houses, hold people up.

    Most of their friends are dead or in jail.

    The brother lost everything due to coke or meth or something.

    My guess is this was a drug deal or somehting gone bad.

    The victim likely knew him.

    Why are they not releasing the victims name?
