Steve Andersson Loses GOP Floor Leader Slot

Steve Andersson

State Rep. Steve Andersson, one of the ten GOP votes that allowed the override of Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto of Mike Madigan’s 32% income tax hike, was ousted from his Floor Spokesman’s post by GOP Leader Jim Durkin, according to the Chicago Tribune.

He was appointed Floor Leader in January of this year.

The communication from Durkin announcing the dismissal follows:

Following the conclusion of the spring and early summer legislative session, I decided that it would be in the best interest of the Republican Caucus to go in a new direction with the position of our Floor Leader.

This afternoon, I asked Representative Andersson to step down from the position.

He agreed, stating he also believed it would be in the best interest of the caucus.

I hope to make an announcement on a new Floor Leader in the coming weeks.

  1. Good move but not enough yet.

When you can’t tell the two parties apart it only promotes voter apathy.

When you have a real party promoting true structural reforms and tax reductions in favor of the taxpayers, people will came out of the woodwork to vote for them!

  2. A step in the right direction, albeit a small one.

The new chief of staff recruited from the IPI has got the DEM’s in a tizzy already,
    and I’m LOVIN’ IT !

  3. Durkin is afraid of conservatives and considers them destabilizing to his power, such as it is.

Bill Brady isn’t recognizeable as a conservative in any way.

This was a pure optics move.

Push Andersson out of any spotlight or position of responsibility and pray the heat on him cools.

Andersson was doing the Republican leaderships bidding, as were all the Republican “Yes” votes.

The districts of those yes votes are more balanced politically than others districts.

It’s why they were chosen to fall on their swords to assure the continued flow of special interest monies to Republican coffers.

Don’t think any Illinois Republican in any leadership position is pro anything except personal power and wealth.

This move was pre ordained in the case of backlash.

Andersson will garner the appropriate level of help from leadership, because of his loyalty, to assure his reelection.

  4. Priest nails it!

“Andersson was doing the Republican leaderships bidding, as were all the Republican “Yes” votes.”

“The districts of those yes votes are more balanced politically than others districts.”

“It’s why they were chosen to fall on their swords to assure the continued flow of special interest monies to Republican coffers.”

“Don’t think any Illinois Republican in any leadership position is pro anything except personal power and wealth.”

To continue to pretend that simply voting Republican will change anything, is insanity defined!

  5. Leader Durken would be wise to select Rep McSweeney for Floor Leader.

McSweeney has been a steadfast conservative voice looking out for taxpayer’s best interest.

Call Durkin’s office at (217) 782-0494 and respectfully ask that he appoint a solid conservative Floor Leader like David McSweeney.

  6. See how we are always reminded to address our politicians “respectfully?” Tic, tock, tic, tock…
