Citizen’s Police Academy Applications Available

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for its 11-week Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA).

The class will run every Wednesday starting September 6, 2017, with graduation set for Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

The CPA consists of a series of classes, discussions and demonstrations of the various operations and divisions of the Sheriff’s Office.

Classes will be held for three hours, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekly at the McHenry County Sheriff’s
Office – Training Division in the Large Classroom.

The goal of the CPA is to facilitate an enjoyable, educational, hands-on learning experience of the field of law enforcement while expanding our communities’ knowledge of the various services we provide.

To be a participant you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal background check, and
sign the waiver/ hold harmless.

Preference is given to those that live or work within McHenry County. Once those have been accommodated, those in other counties are free to attend. The Citizen’s Police Academy is offered free of charge.

Class size will be limited to 22 students; a minimum of 10 students will be required to hold the
Academy.

Participants successfully completing the CPA will have the opportunity to apply if interested in becoming a participant in the Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Program.

Applications must be postmarked or submitted in person to the Sheriff’s Office by Friday, July
28, 2017.

Crystal Lake Police Department Citizen Police Academy

The Crystal Lake Police Department is now accepting applications for its Citizen Police Academy that will start on September 7, 2017 and end November 16, 2017.

The class will meet on Thursday nights from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is an eleven-week program designed to give the participants a working knowledge of the Crystal Lake Police Department.

The CPA consists of a series of classes, discussions and demonstrations of the operations of the Crystal Lake Police Department.

The goals of the CPA are to broaden citizens’ understanding of the functions of the Crystal Lake Police Department, improve upon communication between the Police Department and those we serve, and form valuable partnerships, all in a cooperative effort to improve upon the safety of our community.

In order to participate, you must be at least 18 years of age, complete the Application and Waiver of Liability located on the City of Crystal Lake Webpage at http://www.crystallake.org and pass a criminal background check.

You can also retrieve an application in person during normal business hours at the Crystal Lake Police Department, 100 W Woodstock Street, Crystal Lake.

Preference is given to residents and persons that work in Crystal Lake.

Once residents and persons that work in Crystal Lake have been accommodated, anyone else is free to attend. Applications must be received by August 11, 2017, for consideration.

Class size will be limited to 20 participants, but not less than 10.

  1. Can these citizen academy grads then make citizen’s arrests of corrupt CL cops????

    Why is the drug house on short St., CL allowed to operate?

    Is there graft involved or sheer police stupidity!!! c

    alls to Crimestoppers and the CLPD go unheaded.

  2. I just happened to see a big raid there. No kidding. They had all kinds of people face down on the ground with their hands behind their backs cuffed. But alas, I think that was about twenty years ago.
