Motorcyclist Succumbs to Rakow-Virginia Street Road Crash in Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash

On Sunday, September 24, 2017, at approximately 8:50 pm, Crystal Lake Police and Fire/Rescue responded to the intersection of Virginia Road and Rakow Road for the report of a traffic crash.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered the operator of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle involved in the crash had sustained life-threatening injuries.

The injured operator, an adult male, received medical treatment on scene.

He was later transported to a local hospital.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The Crystal Lake Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene.

The initial police examination revealed a blue Ford Expedition, driven by a male teenager, traveling south on Virginia Road and turning left onto Rakow Road, struck the Harley-Davidson in the intersection.

The driver of the Ford Expedition, and four of his passengers, were not injured.

The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The name of the deceased is being withheld, pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The intersection was closed for approximately two hours while accident investigators analyzed the scene. Crystal Lake Park District Police assisted with traffic control.

  1. I don’t even ride mine to work anymore, because of the carelessness for anyone else that is displayed daily around here.

  2. Gave up mine too due to all the IDIOTS who refuse to pay attention to the road / leave the cellphone alone

    Constantly having to watch out for all the IDIOTS took the enjoyment out of it for me,
    far to risky nowadays.

  3. I had a motorcycle following me so close this evening that I felt it was best if I pull over and let him go by.

    No helmet.

    Then he preceded to weave in and out of traffic.

    We both ended up at the stop light.

    This was on Route 176 in Crystal Lake between 47 and 14, not a good part of 176 to be passing three cars at a time.
