Roskam on Florida School Shooting

A press  release from Congressman Peter Roskam:

Roskam releases statement on Florida high school shooting

DuPage County, IL — Representative Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida:

“The motives behind the tragic shooting today at a high school in Florida remain a mystery, but one thing is for certain – the loss of innocent life at the hands of a merciless gunman is a heinous and despicable act.

“I extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sorrow to the families of those killed and injured in this atrocious act.”

Background:

  • Rep. Roskam voted against his party and against the NRA on the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act saying, “Yesterday, I cast a ‘no’ vote on H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. While a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, I opposed this legislation because it would allow out of state individuals with no license, no permit and no training to carry a concealed weapon in Illinois. By mandating federal concealed carry reciprocity, H.R. 38 would force Illinois to permit visitors from states with incredibly lax or nonexistent concealed carry licensing requirements to legally carry in our communities.”
  • Rep. Roskam is a cosponsor of H.R. 4434, the Fix NICS Act, he strongly supports bipartisan efforts to improve the background check system to ensure that federal and state authorities accurately report relevant criminal history records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Roskam on Florida School Shooting — 14 Comments

  1. Effing idiot.
High schools are odd in the US. All we hear all day is this and that about equality and discrimination.
There is no place with more inequality than an American high school.
It is part of US culture to have cliques in high school.
Until this is addressed there will always be violence.
We breed this crap ourselves and we are too stupid to see it.

  2. Maybe we need to look at decades of Hollywood movies and tv shows glorifying violence. Maybe we need to look at those who produce and sell computer games that glorify and condone violence and killing as a GAME that impressionable youth AND adults readily embrace. What responsibility do they have for the current situation?

  3. Roskam will get no credit for bucking his party, but gun people will vote against him.

So good luck with that one old stinky pete.

  4. Once again the so-called greatest nation on Earth has failed miserably. We are a laughing stock to the rest of the world. It could only be a few generations from now where we are no different than India. A land of haves and have nots and a cast system.

  5. We have athletes in our high schools today given a pass on everything. The end result is a lack of respect for everyone and everything including our own flag and national anthem.
The problems start in grade school when we allow our children to participate in our own caste system.
We openly talk about the “popular kids.”
    That phrase should never exist.

  6. A simple solution to deter problem:
A school security officer (LEO) could have prevented or at the very least
    acted to mitigate this carnage.
But alas, the Libs who run the school systems wouldn’t stand for it.
Kind of makes you wonder if this isn’t some grand scheme for their gun
    confiscation plans.

  7. abe, you know little about the current schools and their use of security personnel and police officers. Most all large secondary schools employee both security personnel and in partnership with your local police force a police officer.

  8. @Tom – Once again you demonstrate your lack of reading comprehension.

Clearly, I was commenting SPECIFICALLY about this incident at this SPECIFIC school.

This SPECIFIC school had no such security personnel.

In closing, I urge you to keep posting your foolish comments and have a wonderful day 😜 !

  9. abe, my reading comprehension is just fine. Your writing is so poor that it obscures any knowledge. Additionally, your reasoning skills are at best faulty, but more than likely your hate blinds you from any rational thought. Are your moving trucks at your door yet?

  10. Girls, Girls, please. This is a mental health issue. Even if there were metal detectors etc someone can still get guns, weapons, bombs or poisons into a school or public bldg etc.

    Just google Laurie Dann.

It also comes down to the fact that the FBI knew about this kids AntiFa violent leanings with fb posts regarding his intentions and did nothing about it. His schoolmates also pegged him as the most likely to do this sort of thing. Did they speak up and were ignored? Or did they fail to say anything? What do we know about his parents, home life, associations?

If every teacher were armed we’d still have violence and mass murder. Evil minds will just go about it differently.

  11. The incident in FL was still being processed and the usual leftists, liberals and Democrats start their usual bs about needing more gun control. But, even if we had their ideal world, utopia in the U.S. were all guns were confiscated except for law enforcement, the mentally unstable would devise other means.

Some top government officials in D.C. in the last year have reminded the public about how bad guys around the world have taken to use other means such as driving a car or truck into a crowd.

  12. On behalf of this sunshine blog and its intellectually challenged sunshine commenters, we want to extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the nra (lower case intended) for all the pain and suffering inflicted on you by those who pointed out the legal bribery you commit every year as you buy politicians to do your bidding in Capitol Hill to successfully prevent any sort of reasonable and common sense gun reform. And to the families of those who lost a loved one during this most recent high school mass shooting, may this also serve as a friendly reminder from our compassionate conservative, family values, pro-life sunshine blog, that the life of your son or daughter is not above the value of our precious second amendment and second-amendment-rights, which in words of our one-term congressman and family-values moral leader Joe Walsh, protects all other rights. I am sure this reminder will comfort you every time you visit your loved one in the grave. Remember also, as very accurately was pointed out by other sunshine commenters, this is a mental health and video games issue. In the meantime, this sunshine blog lives and shines on…stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, tic, tock…
