McHenry and Nunda Townships Abate Taxes

With the heat being put on township government generally by local media, it is little wonder that township boards are abating taxes for the bills coming out this year.

In McHenry Township, for instance, under pressure from the four Republican Trustees led by township opponent Bob Anderson, here’s what happened last night:

  • Abatement from Township (corporate) Fund 10%.$270,000. (Came from General Assistance Fund.)
  • Abatement from Township Road District Fund 5% $122,500. ($52,500 from Road 7 Bridge) ($70,000 from Permanent Hard Road Fund)
  • Nothing from Assessor.
Additionally, Anderson made a motion to place on the April Agenda discussion of salaries for clerk, supervisor and road commissioner.
In Nunda Township, Supervisor Lee Jennings repoorted that $50,000 was abated from the Town Fund.

  1. Great, now if schools could do something about their spending we would actually have a real savings on our tax bills. Townships are not the reason taxes are so high. It bears repeating.

  2. Isn’t the Road Commissioner the only one to legally change the Road levy, then with board approval?

  3. Hey nob, i believe they’re talking abatement, not levy.

  4. Ok change my sentence from levy to abatement, Road Comm has to agree to it right?

  5. Nob, I have no idea but I bet he was kicking and screaming about it.

I’m ticked off about being overtaxed originally and not grateful for an abatement.

    Township government take heed.

All your little slush funds are beginning to be scrutinized.

  6. A person could be the best employee ever, but if that person works for our gov and get paid with tax $$$$, most say they are useless leaches. Its a no win deal.
