“Secret” GOP Meeting Not Entirely Secret

A commenter made mention of a secret meeting of Republicans and I asked for details.

Turns out the “invitation only” meeting on Saturday afternoon at the Crystal Lake GOP Headquarters (my 1973 State Rep. office) has been posted on the McHenry County Republican Party web site, which you can see below:

The meeting was with Governor Bruce Rauner.

Color me cynical, but I’m guessing there were not many people in favor of the bill to allow abolition of township government by referendum among the chosen few.

Even so, I can’t believe the Governor would be so stupid as to veto such a bill, if it passed.

He has talked too much about the excessive number of governmental units in Illinois.

As with all of his recent visits to McHenry County, to this one the public was not invited.

“Secret” GOP Meeting Not Entirely Secret — 30 Comments

  1. If the local GOP endorsed this Township crap They must go too!

    Who went! I want names!

I’m tired of betrayals. And Raunch-Rauner is the King of them!

  2. What do you mean by ‘endorsed this township Cra-p?
Are you For abolishment of Township govt or against it?

Did you read the bill? What do you think of the plan?
    ( hint-there is no plan )

Rauner is clearly testing the temperature of the waters (support and donors) of Ives supporting counties after the primary.

  3. Are you saying trustees would abolish a township or give voters a referendum to do so?

Are you talking about merging a highway department into the township or the township as a whole being eliminated?

  4. I am sure that there was more than one topic being discussed at this meeting!

And I am sure Rauner is trying to get as much support as possible for the campaign season.

But if this was just a meeting to give Rauner an earful about townships then there is a question mark to this GOP!

But would Rauner waste his time coming to McHenry County just to hear that?

Wonder why the GOP decided to post this?

    Questions Questions

  5. There are two referendums in possible play.

State law allows township boards to put a referendum on the ballot to put the road commissioner under the township board. That change of authority would not take place until the current term of a road commissioner is up in 2021.

The second referendum being discussed has passed the House and is in the State Senate. It would allow a township board or citizens, by petition, to place a referendum on the ballot to abolish a township government.

  6. I am against township government. They should all be abolished.

The pending bill, however, is seriously flawed in that it does not allow for the county to take over the taxing authority of a dissolved township, including interim assistance benefits and Motor Fuel Taxes.

It will therefore require the county to raise taxes.

It will also drive all of the interim assistance applicants into other townships to live.

These are unintended consequences which have apparently not been thought out.

It also singles out McHenry County. NO other counties are affected.

    Why is that?

  7. Me too , Landshark. It has to be done right and this bill is sorely lacking a plan, not to mention any savings and where will all this power go? To Franks!

Rauner I’m sure, is on the apology tour for giving in to the Dems with their sanctuary city ( trust act) and his tax funded abortion bill! i’m still voting for him because with Pritzker, IL will be doomed and that’s just what we’ll get if we split the vote and try voting for an Independent. A wasted vote. And a wasted vote is a vote for the guaranteed failure.

  8. The Landshark is mistaken. These are just phony arguments to prolong taxpayer pain and their pension increases.

They are all make believe road blocks.

Kinda like saying “Yes, we should stop letting burglars plunder our homes, but let’s first make sure we’re cost effective. Let’s do a long term study to see if locks and bars on windows are cost efficient, first.”

  9. Here’s a little haiku my kid just turned in his Sophomore HS composition class ( and got an A on, btw)

It’s Title is “Booby Miller, Township Crook/Official” (but it really could renamed “Lutzow” or any number of township drones …. )

    Booby Miller, Township Crook/Official

    False crown with pride wears

    On vanity’s throne he sits

    Hypocrisy reigns!

  10. Cal, I have a feeling one of the topics being discussed, is the meeting this coming Saturday. Many Republicans want to see someone else appointed to head the State Republican Party. What have you heard?

  11. Considering the factors and making a plan is not a road block.

McDOT right now wants no part of the deal, at least not with the budget they have now.

Eliminating township seems to be the direction, but without major cuts in services there will be no savings.

  12. Fewer real republicans support Rauner than wasteful townships.

  13. I wish I would’ve known about this…

    I guess I’m not a real Republican.

The local Republican Party needs to look long and hard at it self in the mirror.

It’s becoming more clear to the voter electorate that there are no Democrats or Republicans – It’s the political class against the rest of us.

Republicans like to stay they are for transparency, yet, how many transparency bills of been put forward by the county board or by any township board that is overwhelmingly Republican?

Republicans like to say they are for tax cuts, yet, how many real tax cuts have there been under Republican leadership over the past 30 years in MCHENRY COUNTY?

Republicans like to say they are for smaller government, yet, look how they sell their souls and bend over backwards to conform to the political class.

  14. I agree w/ Andrew. Evertson is another one that talked big, but lied.

  15. The McHenry County board has primarily been run well in the last couple of decades. It’s the school districts that are ripping us off and producing less to be proud of by the day.

  16. Andrew thank you so much for what you have done.

Please realize that the silent majority stands with you.

You are just like our president who is hated by the party but enjoys a 51% approval rating.

We are fortunate to have someone like you in local government.

Why won’t the Republican Party denounce what happened in Algonquin Township?

  17. Casey:

    The county’s been run well?

Is that what a $40 M surplus at Valley Hi is?

    Unchecked DOT spending?

Let’s not forget the board, administrator and chairman maneuvering around policy in order to hire admin and publicity cronies

    Run well my ass.

  18. Did Evertson ask Governor Rauner if he would deputize the Midwest Minutemen so they could fight the ignorant invaders?

    Midwest Minutemen to the rescue!!!

  19. The minutekkklan in the gop agenda. Is this a surprise? Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwww…

  20. “MrsCollimore’ , what are you talking about?

I have never caught Diane Evertsn in a lie in all the years I’ve known and communicated with her.

Maybe you just asked her something and just didn’t like the answer!

That’s probably more like it. LOL

  21. Trump has torn our party apart. He will have destroyed our chances for the next decade after this NOV election. I feel like a hypocrite to say that we are the moral party when we are led by a horrible morally corrupt con-man. How can Trumpers support him – please help?

  22. Blaming Trump again. There was no alternative in the Nov 6 2016 election. The other candidate was grossly incompetent and untrustworthy as was well documented by her failing to protect classified information in her emails. If she would have won, we would not only have her incompetence but a truly morally corrupt First Man in the white house who violated women including rape. These violated women did not give consent.

  23. “…a truly morally corrupt First Man in the white house who violated women including rape. These violated women did not give consent.” The sexual morality defenders who feel entirely comfortable with tronald chump in the White House. More good old fashioned entertainment coming your way here in the sunshine blog…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwww…

  24. Sunshine blogger, I must admit you disappointed me by not showing up to this secret meeting and shooting some spectacular in-your-face pictures of Gov. Rauner and minutekkklan darling Evertsen. Wait a minute! Perhaps a picture of the Predator would be less scary than looking at Diane Evertsen. Even McSweeney is a little upset…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwww…

  25. To Harold P and all who are upset about what has gone on in Algonquin Township should call State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally and tell him you expect him to do his job and indict Robert Miller.

He has more than enough information to do this. This is your opportunity to speak out!

we don’t need Diane Evertsen or any pro Township arguments speaking for us or in our place.

She has no authority to do this.

    Algonquin Township should be abolished.

  26. To Harold P and all who are upset about what has gone on in Algonquin Township – you should call State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally and tell him you expect him to do his job and indict Robert Miller. He has more than enough information to do this.

    Algonquin Township should be abolished.

  27. Hopef is right on target.

Tell State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally to do his job and quit acting like a politician like his old boss

  28. “Why won’t the Republican Party denounce what happened in Algonquin Township?” – They were involved in some way? Perhaps?

    Mr. Skinner,
It’s nice to see you comment more. Your soft, SuperRepublican touch guides us to the promised land. A mythical place of low taxes, and no section 8 housing. Where ice cream and aspirin can replace opiates(Conway, Sessions) – where corruption is not tolerated, and those guilty(Trump) – spend time a hard time in Prison (Billy Anne) – because we all know that jail/prison are GREAT for the mind, body, and soul for the individual and their families.

Cindy – note the sarcasm – Bust out your Websters.
