The Village of Cary supplies both water and sewage disposal to those living in surrounding unincorporated areas.

How much more does Cary want to charge the non-residents?

50%.

So, might not the Village of Lake in the Hills do something similar if if took control of the LITH Sanitary District as McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks wishes?

The Sanitary District serves not only LITH residents, but some in Crystal Lake and Huntley.

Charging 50% more to residents nearby Cary might encourage them to annex to the village.

The boundaries of the Lake in the Hills Sanitary District with the exception of the extension into Kane County.

That would probably not be the case with people now living in Crystal Lake and Huntley.

  1. If they annexed to LITH they may pay less in Water charges, but their property taxes would go up also.
Would there be a offset is the real question?

  2. As of 4/30/17, the district was sitting on $6.9 million in Cash, which represented several years worth of operating expense coverage. A significant percentage of that Cash was collected from CL and Huntley taxpayers.
It looks like that Cash might all be transferred onto the books of the Village of Lake in the Hills. Along with $45.5 million in other Assets. And the taxpayers are still on the hook for the debt service out to the year 2039.
