A July 16th press release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department:

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Boat/Swimmer Accident

A 6-year-old Cary boy sustained serious injuries after being struck by a boat in shallow water on
the Fox River in unincorporated Fox River Grove Sunday afternoon.

At 4:45 p.m., members of the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District, Fox River Grove Police
Department, and Flight for Life along with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to
Picnic Grove Park, located at 598 Birch Lane, for a boat/swimmer accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 19-year-old Algonquin man was piloting an 18 ft Bayliner
towards the beach to dock.

The 6-year-old was swimming at the beach and dove under the water.

Due to the murky water, the 19-year-old was unable to see the boy and drove the boat over him.

The child was next seen floating unconscious next to the boat and was pulled from the water.

Once on the beach, life-saving measures were undertaken by bystanders.

The juvenile was transported by Flight for Life to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park

Ridge with life-threatening injuries. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in this accident.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit.

  1. Watching helplessly as the boat was trying to kill their son in the water while they where on land.

  2. Well then Eric, and according to your narrative, that boat should be arrested and charged with attempted murder.

I’m sure you would agree – boats kill.
