Is David McSweeney Thinking About Running Against Dick Durbin?

David McSweeney

When I saw an op-ed piece from State Rep. David McSweeney in favor of ratifying the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for U.S. Supreme Court Justice and criticizing U.S. Senator Dick Durbin for his opposition to confirmation, I wondered why he was stepping into the Federal arena.

Now, I think I know.

I think he is thinking about running against Durbin for the U.S. Senate two years from now.

Here’s what leads me to that conclusion:

Dick Durbin

Senator Durbin: I’m waiting for answers from Brett Kavanaugh

Illinois state Rep. David McSweeney was correct in his recent opinion piece that I opposed Brett Kavanaugh’s judicial nomination, but he’s wrong on …
Durbin is replying to McSweeney’s criticism.
When is the last time you saw a United States Senator reply to something that a State Representative wrote?

  1. That guy Dick is not a good senator. Some years back, when the U.S. had many thousands of Troops in Iraq, he referred to them as nazi storm troopers.

He and his Democrat colleague senators will pick through many years of documentation about Kavanaugh to try and find any little thing about him and then blow it up. Would not be surprised if they go back to the grammar school records to nitpick something. Then, he or another Democrat will bring it up and use an old Democrat term used by them during judicial hearings. Namely, it is TROBBBLLLINGGGG!

  2. 1982 wasn’t that when Richie was first took office in DC.

Richie has voted for more national debt than any elected official in whole USA!!!!

  3. Oh brother. Durbin has done an excellent job.

If McSweeney wants to run on his support for Kavanaugh, well, bless his heart!

This nomination (like everything Trump does) stinks to high heaven and is being rammed through without any kind of oversight from the Senate.

Thank God we have two senators that are willing to stand up and attempt to slow down this out of control train.

And hey, I like a Senator who isn’t afraid to answer his fritics, to speak out plainly about where he stands.

Sure makes a nice contrast to our local Republican congressmen.

  4. Sunshine blogger, time for an early, kiss-of-death endorsement. Stay tuned…82 days…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwwwww…

  5. I doubt that Dick will run again.

In fact, it is rumored that he will announce his retirement before the end of his term, thus allowing Gov Priztger to appoint his replacement, sans wiretap.

The interesting question then would be who would be his pick.

    I am betting on Lisa.

Jesse will also announce his retirement and Franks is gunning for that.

  6. Dirt Bag Durbin, smarmy cowardly political punk and scum of the Earth.

An embarrassment to Illinois of epic proportion.

  7. Yes HonstAbe1 you eloquent devil …

    I couldn’t have said it any better…

    I hope McSweeney does run…

    he will get my support

  8. Durbin is another Dem politician that never had a job in the private sector, never had to make a payroll, never had to borrow money for inventory or equipment, just a career politician.

Other Dem examples would be Obama and Biden.

  10. If Sweeney ran, we’d go from a -100 to a +95!

Go for it Dave; I’d even work for him. Hard.

  11. Durbin got his start thanks to Zionist $$$$$$$

He should be registered as an agent for a foreign power. ‘Foreign agent criminal’ Scooter Libby (not my words, US Atty Peter Fitzgerald’s) called him “A great friend.”

“(Asher) identified an obscure Democratic lawyer in Springfield, Richard Durbin, as someone who could defeat Findley. “We met at my apartment in Chicago, and I recruited him to run for Congress,” he recalled. “I probed his views and I explained things that I had learned mostly from aipac. I wanted to make sure we were supporting someone who was not only against Paul Findley but also a friend of Israel.”

Asher went on, “He beat Findley with a lot of help from Jews, in-state and out-of-state. Now, how did the Jewish money find him? I travelled around the country talking about how we had the opportunity to defeat someone unfriendly to Israel. And the gates opened.”

Durbin, who went on to win a Senate seat, is now the Democratic whip. He is a fierce critic of Bush’s Iraq policy but, like aipac, generally supports the Administration’s approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

  12. McSweeney is the Ted Cruz of Illinois politics. His own colleagues dislike him.

This guy is a contrarian who often takes the opposite stance of Rauner, even if it means taking up a very stupid position or contradicting his own rhetoric, just to show he’s a “real Republican.”

He has no bona fides on federal policy and is incoherent on state policy, which is demonstrated by the fact that he regularly ignores his constituents’ questions.

He countersignals against people in his own party like Diane Evertsen and the majority of McHenry County GOP Precinct Committeemen who voted for Evertsen by calling them racist extremists.

What would be his base of support outside of rich people in Barrington? Illinois is a big state.

He’s a blowhard who doesn’t even research his own legislation, particularly the consequences of his bills.

He’s a headline seeker, nothing more. He’s like a less intelligent, less winning, less popular version of Jack Franks with a lazy eye.

McSweeney won’t win a general election, he couldn’t even win a primary election for Senate, and he probably won’t run for Senate in the first place because he’d rather have some small position of authority and money (rather than no position) and use it to yell and do nothing.

A Democrat is going to win that seat in 2020… it’s a presidential election.

Republicans, find someone better than David the Weenie McSweeney.

  13. “This nomination (like everything Trump does) stinks to high heaven and is being rammed through without any kind of oversight from the Senate.”

JoeK. you do know that the senate will have confirmation hearings don’t you?

    How will it be rammed?
