NYT Poll Shows Virtual Tie in Roskam-Casten Congressional Race, But Few Participants in Republican Barrington Area

45% for Roskam, 44% for Casten.

11% undecided.

Nothing changed in the last part of the New York Times Poll last night.

511 people took part in the 6th Congression District.

But, take a look at where the people called llived.

There should be 511 dots noting where people live who took part in the New York Times poll on September 6, 2018. But look at the blank spaces. The biggest is in the Barrington area. Not one person took part in Barrington Township, a solidly Republican area.  Just north of the Cook-Lake County line, but still in Barrington is Cuba Township.  Not a lot of dots in that GOP area either.

Lots of details about the poll can be found here.

The most interesting to me was the following:

Undecided voters

About 11 percent of voters said that they were undecided or refused to tell us whom they would vote for. On questions about issues, these voters most closely resembled Republicans.

NYT Poll Shows Virtual Tie in Roskam-Casten Congressional Race, But Few Participants in Republican Barrington Area — 20 Comments

  1. Back in 2016, vast majority of polls had Hillary Clinton easily beating Donald Trump.

So, what are we to believe today, especially when coming from a highly biased source?

  2. This year I will vote Democratic for Casten.

    Roskam hasn’t done anything.

I am concerned about health care and Trump is too much for me.

  3. ernie you are misinformed.

Any health care plan promoted by the Democrats is a big budget buster.

Trump hasn’t had a chance yet to promote his healthcare proposal.

Casten says Trumps’s budget cuts are worse than Obama doubling our debt?

Ignore the noise and give Trump time.

  4. The enthusiastic crap-stain community of anti-Trumpers declares, they will keep punching themselves in the face, until you bring back Obama and another decade of Democrat stagnation,

  5. Casten’s campaign claims that “he” started businesses.

Apparently he has not listened to top leaders of the Democrat Party, Barack Hussein Obama and Cherokee Liz Warren.

About six years ago, both of these people said that people that start or run businesses are really not all that important.

Barack and Liz said about business people that they really did not start or build that business but that somebody else made that happen, somebody else is responsible.

Also, Casten is extremely ignorant and careless in his remarks about abortion and the taking of life in the womb.

He cavalierly compares an abortion to a gall bladder operation.

He is obviously a so-called pro-choice candidate which really means he is OK with pro-death of the unborn.

  6. Regarding this:

“The most interesting to me was the following: Undecided voters – About 11 percent of voters said that they were undecided or refused to tell us whom they would vote for. On questions about issues, these voters most closely resembled Republicans.”

I think a lot of people in the district are what you might call “George Will Republicans.”

Will argued back in June that this is the principle by which independents and temperate Republicans should vote: “The congressional Republican caucuses must be substantially reduced. … In today’s GOP, which is the president’s plaything, he is the mainstream. So, to vote against his party’s cowering congressional caucuses is to affirm the nation’s honor while quarantining him.”

  7. Constituent – Trump hasn’t had a chance yet to promote his healthcare proposal????

    Really?

    He hasn’t had the chance?

He’s been president for 1.5 years.

He hasn’t had a chance because he’s too busy watching cable news or he’s too busy golfing or he’s too busy on Twitter or he’s too busy giving rallies in red states or he’s too busy finding out which people called him every single form of the word stupid (Woodward book and op-ed)?

When do you think he’s going to find the time???

Please let me know since I’m also misinformed.

  8. Constituent try again.

Thanks to a Koch brothers study by thebMercatus Center at George Mason University: by implementing “Medicare for All” “national personal health care costs decrease by less than 2 percent, while total health expenditures decrease by only 4 percent, even after assuming substantial administrative cost savings.”

That’s right, DECREASE! How, exactly, is that a budget buster? Are you not fiscally conservative?

  9. Numerous times many years ago when he and the Democrat Party was snow-jobbing Americans to sell ACA/Obamacare, the big liar Obama said:

If you like your health care plan/insurance and doctor, you can keep these.

This liar, Barack Obama, said this numerous times on national tv and that was well recorded and documented. Turns out these were huge lies by Obama that affected millions of Americans. He and the untruthful Democrat Party never had any plans or procedures in place that would let Americans keep their plans and doctors if they so desired. Obama also said that Americans would save many hundreds of dollars per year, up to $2500, if ACA was passed. Another huge lie. Actually, health care premiums went up substantially.

Bottom line. Because of these actions by Obama and the Democrat Party and many numerous incidendts of deceit, lies, incompetence, recklessness, lawlessness by Obama and those who served in his Administration, no Democrat candidate anywhere in the U.S. is deserving of an Americans’ vote until such time that that Party thoroughly changes its leadership and anti-American ideas such as abolishing ICE and supporting those who come into our Nation illegally.

  10. “…no Democrat candidate anywhere in the U.S. is deserving of an Americans’ vote until such time that that Party thoroughly changes its leadership and anti-American ideas such as abolishing ICE and supporting those who come into our Nation illegally.” Excellent American values lesson from our Fox News brainwashed, sunshine political science and sociology professor wannabe. Please entertain us on how abolishing the Department of Education, the IRS, the FBI, and the Bureau of Consumer Protection is patriotic and American. See? It is time for these sunshine charlatan republikkklans to understand we know them too well and they do not fool anybody here…other than themselves. Stay tuned…58 days…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  11. prairie burner because the costs would shift from being mostly private to mostly public.

Example A: People pay 10,000 dollars out of pocket and a few hundred for Medicare/Medicaid
Example B: People tack on 9,600 dollars to the few hundred for Medicare/Medicaid but no longer have to pay for private insurance

It might not seem like a big difference to you, but it’s a big difference for government. California projected if they did universal healthcare that alone would cost about the same as their entire current budget.

Let’s think of another example. Let’s pretend schools went from being a public function to a private one. You would likely pay more money as an individual with children, but it’s pretty obvious that your property taxes would go down significantly, since the government wouldn’t need any of the money for schools.

The GMU study is actually one of the best sells to libertarians and Republicans because you can appeal to rational self-interest. But the savings are minor and it brings up concerns about effects on quality. Overall, this was weak stuff when you consider the U.S. spends double the OECD average, and this study is showing just 2-4 percent savings…

@hawkeye, I don’t think there are a lot of sophisticated Republicans thinking “we really need a democratic house for checks and balances!” More than likely, these Republican leaning people hesitating to support Roskam think one of the following about him
    1. He is a career politician.
    2. I have some significant disagreement with him
    3. What has he done that justifies me sending him back to DC?

I don’t believe neocon never-trumpers like Will or Kristol have much influence. They’re useful idiots for “news” outlets with an ax to grind with Trump.

  12. Hilarious video of election predictions about trump by lamebrain pundits, Hollywood losers and other assorted talking heads:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slw4pLx08w0

Tom Hanks, Geo. Clooney, Obama, Pocahantas, Pelosi, Obon-go, Ronald Reagan’s gay-atheist son etc., total idiots exposed as they should be! PC fakes and losers—all of them!

  13. Here is another prediction for Maga nuts…57 days…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwwwww…

  14. **Back in 2016, vast majority of polls had Hillary Clinton easily beating Donald Trump.**

Actually… the national polls said Hillary would win by 2-4%… and guess what, Hillary won buy 2-4%. And most of the state polls ended up being pretty accurate – within the margin of error. But hey – never let the facts get in the way of a preferred narrative.

And based on Cal’s *concerns* about the poll not asking enough people in Barrington, its clear none of you actually know how polling works anyway.

**Trump hasn’t had a chance yet to promote his healthcare proposal.**

    LOL

  15. My household is heavily Democratic and it was not included in this poll; therefore, my scientific knowledge of political polling allows me to reach the conclusion that Sean Casten will be elected our next Il 6th Congressional District representative. Stay tuned…57 days…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  16. Civics lesson to thug Hillary Clinton supporters.

In the U.S., presidents are elected to office based on electoral college votes.

In 2016, Donald Trump easily beat Hillary Clinton in that vote count.

  17. It’s not like they didn’t try to call people in Barrington though.

It says over 36 thousand people were called and only a little over 500 responded.

You can see the dots everywhere, including in Barrington.

I can only surmise that people in Barrington hate polls or don’t care about this election at all.

If it’s the latter, that’s a bad sign for Roskam if that area is supposed to be his stronghold.

  18. I love civic lessons from our irresponsible Fox-news brainwashed, sunshine political science and sociology professor. We are still waiting for the number of retired educators who begin collecting retirement benefits in excess of $150,000. In the meantime…56 days…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwwwww…

  19. **In 2016, Donald Trump easily beat Hillary Clinton in that vote count.**

Correct… and what does that have to you with your wrong point on the polling?
