A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

Crystal Lake Police Arrest Person for Criminal Damage to Property, Seek Second Offender

On August 20, 2018, at approximately 7:35 PM, Crystal Lake Police responded to the 200 block of  Marian Parkway after receiving reports of several unattended vehicle windows being shattered within the parking lot.

Marian Parkway is a short distance from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Officers collected evidence on scene and conducted an article search of the surrounding area.

From this, they determined the damage sustained to the vehicles was a result of several BB’s discharged from a BB gun.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the discharge of BB guns

Based on witness statements and evidence collected at the scene, including three  BB guns seized during the investigation, Crystal Lake Police Detectives quickly developed two suspects in the case.

Marcell Blanchard

On August 27, 2018, the case was presented to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s office for review.

As a result, on September 11, 2018, charges were approved against the two suspects.

Arrest warrants were issued with bond amounts set at $3,000.00 (10%) for both offenders.

Marcell D. Blanchard (18) of Chicago

  • Criminal Damage to Property, 720 ILCS 5/21-1(a)(1), a Class 4 Felony
  • Criminal Damage to Property (4 counts), 720 ILCS 5/21-1(a)(1), a Class A Misdemeanor

Willie Saffold

Willie E. Saffold (19) of Crystal Lake

  • Criminal Damage to Property, 720 ILCS 5/21-1(a)(1), a Class 4 Felony
  • Criminal Damage to Property, 720 ILCS 5/21-1(a)(1), a Class A Misdemeanor

The arrest warrant for Saffold was served on September 12, 2018, at the McHenry County Jail where he was in custody on unrelated charges.

Blanchard’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
