ANTHONY HARRISON FOUND GUILTY OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 33-year-old Anthony Harrison of McHenry, Illinois, was found guilty, after a bench trial, of the offense of First Degree Murder by Honorable Judge James S. Cowlin.

On June 6, 2016, Harrison called 911 for medical assistance after attempting to take his own life.

While on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, Harrison reported that he had killed his wife, Laura Harrison, inside the house two days earlier.

When officers responded to the residence, Harrison again stated that he had killed his wife.

Within the residence, officers located Laura Harrison who had been stabbed, beaten and strangled.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that, within hours of murdering his wife, Harrison purchased numerous items to attempt to conceal or destroy evidence of the murder.

It also appeared that Harrison intended to burn down the house with Laura’s body inside.

The sentencing range for the offenses is 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Harrison will be sentenced on November 16, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Robert Zalud, Randi Freese and Scott Jacobson.

The McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team (MIAT) and the McHenry Police Department investigated this case.
