“As we approach the colder months, it’s important that our seniors and low-income families are taken care of,” said Sen. DeWitte.

“Keeping the power on for individuals who can’t afford to pay their energy bill can be the difference between life and death.”

Beginning October 1, appointments and applications are first available to seniors and people with disabilities.

Disconnected households and families with children ages 5 or under can begin applying for LIHEAP assistance beginning November 1, and all other individuals can apply beginning December 1. LIHEAP applicants will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information on the program go to www.liheapIllinois.com or call the LIHEAP toll-free hotline at 1-877-411-WARM (9276).
