70-Year Old Man Killed in Coventry Fire Identified

A press release from the McHenry County Coroner’s Office:

McHenry County Coroner, Dr. Anne Majewski, announced today that her office is investigating the death of a Crystal Lake man who died yesterday after a fire broke out in his home.

A 911 call for a structure fire in the 600 block of Sussex Lane came in at 4:04pm with Crystal Lake Fire and Rescue and Crystal Lake Police Department responding to the scene.

An unresponsive male was found inside the home. He was removed from the home and transported to Northwestern Medicine-Huntley Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead at 4:55pm.

The deceased is identified to be Old, age 70, of Crystal Lake, Illinois.

An autopsy performed this afternoon revealed evidence of smoke and soot inhalation in addition to blunt trauma to his cervical spine.

Final cause and manner of death are pending additional studies. No foul play is suspected at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshall and the Crystal Lake Fire Department.
