McHENRY POLICE AND McHENRY DISTRICT 156 INVESTIGATE A THREAT AT SCHOOL
On Tuesday, February 26th, 2019, the McHenry Police Department investigated inappropriate
comments made by a McHenry Community High School (West Campus) student.

The high school student stated the inappropriate, school shooting-related comments to a fellow
classmate.
When the school’s administration became aware of the comment, the student was brought to the school’s office and the School Resource Officer, a McHenry Police Officer, was immediately notified.
A joint investigation between the McHenry Police Department and McHenry Community High
School District 156 was conducted regarding the comments.
The student involved with making the comments was immediately removed from the school, taken into custody and transported to the McHenry Police Department.
As part of the investigation, the police department’s Investigations Division conducted interviews
with the student, their parents and the school’s administration.
As a result of that investigation, the student, a 15-year old male, was charged with felony disorderly conduct and transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.
The student did not possess nor have access to any weapons and there was no immediate threat
to the students and school staff at McHenry West Campus or to the community.
Parents and students are urged to inform the police department and school representatives about
alarming behavior that has the potential to pose a risk to the community.
We commend the actions of individuals who come forward with information of this type in a swift manner.
These cases are taken very seriously by our school districts and police department.
Because the student is a juvenile, the McHenry Police Department cannot comment further on this
investigation.
