RE: Retirement

Dear McHenry County Board Members:

With a heavy heart, I am submitting my intent to retire from my position as Coroner in order to address ongoing health complications related to my cancer treatment. My retirement will be effective March 23, 2019.

It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of McHenry County. I have been blessed to have witnessed the resilience and hopefulness of families who have lost loved ones, to have worked with dedicated professionals both here at the Government Center and across McHenry County, and to have had the opportunity to meet so many McHenry County citizens, young and old, at presentations and seminars.

I shall assist with the changeover, once my successor is chosen, to insure a smooth and seamless transition of leadership.

Respectfully submitted,

Anne L. Majewski MD
McHenry County Coroner

Majewski won the 2012 Republican Primary Election without opposition, was sworn into office that December and has served since, winning re-election in 2016.

She started her medical career as an obstetrician at Good Shepherd Hospital, retired early causing dismay from her many patients.

She is the daughter of former McHenry County Board member Lou Anne Majewski.

Under state law, a replacement will be nominated by County Board Chairman Jack Franks.

The office of McHenry County Auditor was vacated about a year ago, prompting Franks to announce his desire for the Board to place a referendum on the ballot to eliminate the office, replacing it with an appointed Inspector General basically reporting to himself.

He announced that CPA Nancy Gonsiorek, then a candidate for a GOP nomination for the County Board, had agreed to be his choice as interim Auditor.

The County Board made it known its members would neither ratify a Gonsiorek nomination nor put a referendum on the ballot to abolish elected office.

Dr. Anne Majewski’s Retirement Letter as Coroner — 4 Comments

  1. I commend Dr. Anne for doing what is best for her health but it’s a huge loss for our county.

Very few people are irreplaceable and she may be one of those.

I wish nothing less than complete healing for her.

Know that you are in my daily prayers, Dr. Anne Majewski.

  2. I couldn’t have said it better, Murmuring!

    What a mess

she walked into and what a wonderful job she’s done.

It’s a very busy office to hold these days!

So many deaths, accidents, overdoses in this county!

All the best to Dr. Majewski.

  3. Sad, on many levels.

And the fetid jackal will rear up on his hind legs and try to get a flunky to replace Dr. Anne.

ONCE AGAIN, McHENRY RESIDENTS LOSE BIG.
