Analysis of the Mess Illinois Finds Itself – Fact 19

A continuation of the analysis of the current situation in Illinois by WirePoints:

Fact 19

19. Property taxes punish. Much of the cost imposed by the failures of Illinois politicians shows up in the yearly property tax bills of Illinoisans across the state. By 2014, Illinoisans already paid the third-highest property taxes in the nation.

And if that wasn’t enough, Illinoisans also paid the 6th-highest overall state and local tax burden in the nation. All for the benefit of having one of the most corrupt and failed governments in the country. And all before the additional negatives of the Rauner/Madigan impasse.

Analysis of the Mess Illinois Finds Itself – Fact 19 — 6 Comments

  1. The overall tax burden, and debt, is most important.

Illinois is high in both taxes and debt.

Examples of government debt are bonds, unfunded pensions, unfunded retiree healthcare, past due bills, etc.

Texas for instance does not tax income.

  2. Thank you Mark.

Most will not go to the link so here is some detail.

Illinois ranks number 8 behind New York, Hawaii, Maine, Vermont, Minnesota, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Bernie Sanders is from Vermont. Ocasio-Cortes is from New York.

Illinois is preparing to compete with New York relative to being the abortion capital of the country. With the current indications of tax increases in Illinois, soon Illinois may also replace New York as number one for tax burden!!

    Iowa ranks number 14.

    Wisconsin ranks number 16.

    Indiana ranks number 24.

Fiat Chrysler is cutting a lot of jobs in Illinois and creating thousands of new jobs in Michigan which ranks number 26 for tax burden.

    Missouri ranks number 38.

  3. The worst aspect of property taxes in Illinois is the disparity between the Chicago and the rest of the State.

If you live outside the City of Chicago you subsidize Chicago!

The average for the state does NOT reflect reality.

  4. The generalization should be, “If you live outside of Cook County, you are discriminated against with regard to property taxes.”
