Immigration:  Humanitarian Funding for the Border Passed House, Casten and Underwood Supported It

The Senate-amended H.R. 3401, the appropriations bill for emergency funding for the border, passed late yesterday afternoon in a real bipartisan vote of 305-102.  Both Congressman Sean Casten and Congresswoman Lauren Underwood voted in favor of the bill.  While the media and progressives are calling the passage of the Senate-modified legislation a defeat for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, she did the right thing backing the Senate measure.  A conference committee and prolonged negotiations would have wasted time and prevented getting relief to the people who need it most.

May all of the members of the House, including Casten and Underwood, stay away from politicizing the real crisis taking place at the southern border.  The Senate wisely rejected the original House legislation, and on a real bipartisan vote of 84-8 (including support from Illinois’ Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth), voted to get the relief to the border as soon as possible.  Real bipartisan common sense overcame progressive extremism (see the POLITICO link below), and Casten and Underwood did the right thing supporting the final bill.

Yes, the same 4 radical progressive Democrats who opposed the original House legislation voted against the final passage.  Sadly, nearly 100 of their House colleagues, Democrats (91) and Republicans (7) alike, voted with them.

And quotes like this from the radical progressives in the House don’t help:

“‘I think the Problem Solvers Caucus [centrist Democrats] is emerging to be this tea party within our own Democratic Party,’ Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told POLITICO. ‘I find their tactics to be extremely concerning. It’s horrifying. It’s horrifying.'”

Now the Trump Administration can do its job.  That said, no one can ignore what is going on at the border, especially this week.  CBN published a border story today which shows where the Trump Administration’s policy is bearing fruit in order to end the crowded conditions at border stations.  The link is below.

Underwood Attempts to Grandstand on Border Crisis, Introduces Legislation That Burdens Already Overburdened Federal Employees

In a blatant attempt to pad her re-election resume’ for next year’s election, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood introduced legislation putting more legal mandates on the already overwhelmed Customs and Border Protection personnel. House Resolution 3525 attempts to improve medical screenings at the U.S.-Mexico border by mandating replication of services that will cost more money and take away personnel from doing the job that is urgently needed most — to care for the people who are coming into our country seeking asylum.

As stated above and told to Congresswoman Underwood at the May House Homeland Security Committee meeting, Homeland Security needs the funding, which the Democrats finally passed in the House yesterday.  More regulations is not what is needed, and this legislation is no more than feel-good, while blatantly using the image of the drowned Salvadoran father and daughter in the Rio Grande to introduce this bill.

Underwood issued a press release yesterday, and it will likely be a talking point at her rally in Woodstock tomorrow morning from 10-11:30AM at the Woodstock Opera House.

Evelyn Sanguinetti Named a “Top Tier” Candidate in Washington Opinion Piece

In an opinion piece published on Wednesday, Evelyn Sanguinetti was called-out as a successful candidate recruit of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC):

“In places that Republicans need to win, they [NRCC] have recruited top tier candidates who give them the absolute best shot to do so.”

This opinion piece was in response to 2 published reports last week of Republicans concern over the direction of the NRCC and its chairman, Congressman Tom Emmer of Minnesota.  No 14th district candidates were named.  In a Chicago Sun-Times story earlier this year, both Jim Oberweis and Sue Rezin met with NRCC officials in Washington.  Given there are 7 announced/soon-to-announce candidates for the 14th, Republicans have several good choices to choose from for the November 2020 showdown with Lauren Underwood.

Term Limits:  Where Republican Candidates Stand

As reported this week on McHenry County Blog, Allen Skillicorn signed a pledge for term limits from the Washington-based advocacy group U.S. Term Limits (USTL).  Skillicorn’s pledge was signed on June 13, and is accessible online.  Skillicorn signed it as a candidate for Congress for the 14th district.

The USTL pledge states the following:

“I pledge that as a member of Congress I will co-sponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits amendment of three (3) House terms and two (2) Senate terms and no longer limit.”

It should be noted that signing the USTL pledge does not commit the signer to only serve 3 terms in the House, only to co-sponsor and vote for a term limits amendment limiting House members to 3 terms.

Given the content of the USTL pledge, let’s look at all Republican candidates in the 6th and 14th districts to see where they stand on term limits, whether they signed the USTL pledge or not.  Candidates’ positions found utilizing the candidates’ campaign web sites and where possible, their campaign social media pages:

    — Evelyn Sanguinetti:  No mention of term limits on her campaign website
    — Anthony Catella:  Supports as “Four Points of Leadership”, and commits himself to serve no more than 4 terms
    — Ted Gradel:  Supports
    — Danny Malouf:  No mention of term limits on his campaign website or Facebook page
    — James Marter:  Supports, and posted his latest support on Facebook on June 18.
    — Jim Oberweis:  Signed USTL pledge and issued press release April 30 with details on campaign website.
    — Sue Rezin:  Unknown, has not formally launched her congressional campaign.
    — Allen Skillicorn:  Signed USTL pledge June 13.

James Marter Earns Island Lake Patriot Joe Ptak’s Support, On WLS Radio Saturday from 3-6PM Saturday

Last night at the Huntley Area Tea Party meeting where James Marter was a guest speaker, he picked up the support of Island Lake Patriot Joe Ptak, as sent via Facebook and posted on Marter’s campaign Facebook page:

“I told Mr. James Marter tonight that he has my full support to be my 14th Congressional District Representative.”

And James Marter added the following when sharing Mr. Ptak’s support:

“Thank you for supporting us! Fellow patriot and conservative activist Joe Ptak was among a large gathering of ‘Freedom Loving’ IL14 Citizens who came out tonight to our Huntley event hosted by the awesome grassroots coalition The Huntley Area Tea Party. Joe Ptak is an immigrant to our country and cares deeply about America. He supports our president and said tonight he has seen socialism and what it did to Venezuela and will be fighting along side us to ensure the socialists are defeated in the next election.”

And a reminder, tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon from 3-6PM, James Marter is scheduled to be on the Stephanie Trussel Show on WLS 890AM radio.
