DeWitte Gets Award for Gas Tax Hike Vote — 23 Comments

  1. TFIC = another group of leaches organized to remove dollars from the working man’s pocket via taxes.

    Shame on DeWitte!

    He lost my support.

  2. I’m now convinced that 21 new taxes, extracting another $5 B out of everyone’s pockets, is a good thing.

    Thanks in advance DeWitte.

  3. Explain to me how else the crumbling infrastructure in this state is going to get fixed then?

Don’t cry about how Springfield has wasted $.

    No calling politicians names.

    Just answers please.

  4. What part of that 4.9% tax increase 20 months ago, that did absolutely nothing to bail out Illinois, don’t you understand?

  5. I understand it just perfectly thank you.

I would still appreciate an answer to my original question instead of distracting with something else.

How else will the crumbling infrastructure in this state get fixed?

The money has to come from somewhere!

Too much name calling on both sides of the aisle.

Time for everyone to discuss issues in a civil matter.

Our kids and grandkids are watching. Our example to them is pretty pathetic.

  6. Sure. Instead of incivility, how about a big ole hug fest?

This way, anyone who doesn’t want to ‘Sing In Perfect Harmony’ and buy you a Coke, you know it’s ok to punch them.

  7. Showing your true colors.

Punch someone you don’t agree with?

Did you teach your kids that too?

    How about answering my question?

  8. However, according to Randal O’Toole, a Cato Institute Senior Fellow, Illinois’ highway infrastructure is actually in fairly good shape, despite the pronouncement of Pritzker that infrastructure is “crumbling across the state.”

The transportation system with serious infrastructure problems is urban transit.

“The real problem with Illinois’ transit infrastructure is not that it is worn out but that it is obsolete and no longer successfully serves the needs of the typical state resident,” says O’Toole.

“By two important measures the roads are in good shape and getting better,” states O’Toole.

“First, only 2,303 bridges, or less than 9 percent of the total, were considered structurally deficient in 2017.

“This is a substantial reduction from the 4,494 highway bridges, or 18 percent of the total, that were classified structurally deficient in 1992. ‘Structurally deficient,’ by the way, doesn’t mean that a bridge is in danger of collapsing or poses a safety risk.

“Instead, it only means is that the cost of maintaining a bridge is greater than it should be and, in some cases, the load limits for the bridges have been reduced.”

“The second measure showing that Illinois roads are improving is a standardized roughness index used by the Federal Highway Administration to grade highways.

“According to this index, Illinois roads are 35 percent less rough today than they were in 1995.”

In its 23rd Annual Highway Report, the Reason Foundation revealed that Illinois Ranks 28th Overall in Highway Performance and Cost-Effectiveness.

In other words, it’s in the middle of the pack.

In fact, in some areas, Illinois roads do quite well.

“Illinois’s best rankings are rural Interstate pavement condition (tied for 1st), rural arterial pavement condition (3rd) and urban Interstate pavement condition (5th).”

  9. This is worse than that time, a 70 year old Wal Mart Greeter lady, caught and tackled me in the parking lot.

  10. The paths to wealth are many and varied but some fundamentals are:

    – Earn an income. Illinois has amazing advantages of resources, location and trained people which has historically led to excellent income for The State.

    – Build excellent infrastructure to support the income. Illinois benefitted from interstates like few other states in the Union, had the center of rail transportation and has quite a few local/national/international airports to utilize to bring in trade/tourism income.

    – Be good stewards of the income and infrastructure. It is not even a debate whether or not Illinois has been good stewards of anything they’ve touched. Across the U.S. this state is known for its corrupt cleptocracy. Illinois is worse than third world strongman countries in its management of resources and people.

This said DeWitte will make the very vocal argument SOMETHING must be done so he supported infrastructure spending.

The idiot class believes all movement/spending is equal therefore worthy.

The argument is made by the Education Cartel all spending in that world is good for the student.

Just a cursory look at Education shows zero correlative supporting the idea higher spending per student equals higher success per student.

That same cursory look shows a radical departure of the Education Cartel spending money on students but rather on overweighted administrations and lavish salary/benefits not at all seen in the Private Sector.

Infrastructure Cartels have the same problem where the cost per mile of anything has jumped up with an absolutely abysmal field result.

The feeling of the average taxpayer/Citizen is hopelessness when politicians like DeWitte continue to rob from the public coffers with absolutely no hope of any improvement in whatever he’s spending the treasure on.

Throwing money into any Cartel, and Illinois is absolutely full of them, is just continuing more of the same so why should the taxpayer/Citizen celebrate destroying MORE wealth to gain horrible results?

    What could DeWitte do?

Sometimes real leadership means putting on your big boy pants, deciding you’re done with going along with the problem and really working.

    God help us.

A politician who works…. Wouldn’t that be something?

Fight for real structural changes to drive the graft out of Education, Infrastructure, Regulation, Law…

Not one politician leads in this state because it takes mere minutes to buy them off with whatever small bauble strikes their fancy.

DeWitte got bought off for a smiley face picture and a $5 plaque.

Madigan probably would have gone as far as a steak dinner but he is a sucker for those cheap whores.

There is a way to unlock jobs, income and growth in Illinois.

Taking a picture with a plaque while spending more ill gotten gains on terrible workmanship probably isn’t the way but hey… It’s Illinois.

  11. Illinois is already suffering from these tax hikes.

Fewer and fewer job creators and productive members of society.

I predict more tax revenue shortfalls, more crime, more gambling, higher tax rates and ultimately more slimy tax hiking politicians like Don Dim-wit.

Now that the republicans in the suburbs have been displaced by city-democrats Illinois’ future is dim.

  12. Re: “I would still appreciate an answer to my original question instead of distracting with something else.”

    and

“Our kids and grandkids are watching. Our example to them is pretty pathetic.”

Totally agree with the last statement.

How about not spending taxpayer dollars to kill babies?

How about not spending taxpayer dollars on illegal aliens?

How about requiring able bodies to work for their welfare / food stamps?

How about eliminating Prevailing wage laws to permit lower cost contracts for third party contracts?

How about ending ALL public sector taxpayer funded pensions?

Your kids are watching you kill babies and wasting taxpayer dollars unnecessarily.

  13. The State of Illinois could get a lot more bang for the buck on infrastructure projects if it got rid of the ridiculous prevailing wage laws.

  14. Simple answer Diane, they will move out of this sinking and stinking state.

TFIC = The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 and others.

  15. And I would bet a bunch of the new gas tax and other new increases will weasel it’s way into the underfunded and bankrupt pension schemes in this state.

  16. Hey Cal – did you delete some of my previous posts?
    If so – why?

  17. Sorry Cal – I was looking at the wrong thread.

    Very long day of work!

  18. ‘Dianne Miller’, I don’t see you responding to a great answer to your question by ‘Questioning’.

  19. A lot of Republicans voted for the gas tax hike.

Maybe you should primary them out with someone who thinks tornadoes are the wrath of God against homosexuals.

Or maybe you should just stay home.

Or vote Democrat to own the RINOs.

Dems already have like 65 percent of the legislature.

What difference does it make if they have 80 percent?

  20. DeWitte —- just another RINO, like Stevie Reick. They make me ill!
